About this role

Overview

The Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty members to enhance and maintain courses across all modalities (in-person, hybrid, online synchronous/ asynchronous) with a primary focus on educational video development and post-production. Rooted in prior teaching experience, this role focuses on creating engaging and effective course content through high-quality video and multimedia while providing hands-on support to faculty throughout their teaching. Instructional Designers are experts in instructional design, learning theory, student engagement strategies, video-based learning, and the use of Learning Management Systems. They also facilitate live training sessions and workshops to assist faculty in adopting emerging technologies, media tools, and pedagogical best practices. The Instructional Designer will maintain a list of faculty members and the courses they teach, ensuring these courses are kept current by assisting faculty with necessary video, media, and content updates. The instructional Designer is responsible for ensuring that courses, instructional videos and media assets adhere to Touro standards, including accessibility and production quality. This role requires a collaborative spirit and the ability to pivot based on constructive feedback to ensure the best possible learner experience.

Responsibilities

  • Course Development
    • Partner with faculty to develop high-quality courses that align with institutional goals and learning outcomes
    • Create engaging instructional materials, including scripted and edited instructional videos, multimedia content, assessments, and interactive activities
    • Collaborate with faculty on video planning, recording, and post-production to ensure pedagogical effectiveness
    • Stay informed about emerging instructional technologies and their application in education
    • Provide detailed feedback to faculty on video quality, instructional clarity, pacing, and course design to ensure alignment with best practices and standards
    • Use graphic design and video editing tools to enhance course visuals, branding, and overall usability
    • Integrate AI and other innovative tools to improve video production efficiency, student engagement, and learning outcomes
  • Faculty Support
    • Work closely with faculty to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to video production, editing, captioning, and online course design
    • Provide one-on-one and group training sessions for faculty on using LMS features, video platforms, and media creation tools
    • Assist faculty in designing, recording, editing, captioning, and integrating videos and multimedia elements into their courses
    • Serve as a resource for faculty to implement engaging, media-rich, and effective teaching strategies in their courses
    • Assist Senior Instructional Designers on projects, contributing video expertise to collaborative efforts and high-profile initiatives
  • Assessment and Metrics
    • Identify and track success metrics related to video engagement, usability, and learning effectiveness
    • Support faculty in applying assessment tools to evaluate the impact of video-based instruction and gather student feedback
    • Assist with documentation and data collection related to media quality, accessibility compliance, and accreditation process

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, Learning Science (Andragogy) or related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience in the field of training and development, education or communications; MEd is preferred; bachelor's degree required, preferred in an area science or health sciences

  • Demonstrated ability in developing learning outcomes, instructional activities, and assessments.
  • Extensive knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies, video platforms, and pedagogies
  • Demonstrated comfort with technology in education, particularly video recording and editing tools
  • Able to conduct one-on-one and group training of faculty focused on video creation and instructional media use
  • Adept at developing text-, video-, and audio-based training materials to assist faculty with learning new tools and strategies
  • Able to assist faculty in developing high-quality instructional videos and graphically attractive media assets
  • Demonstrated skill developing and implementing media-focused training and support for faculty, staff, and/or students
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of informational technology and media production workflows
  • Advance with video editing software programs, preferably in Adobe Premiere Pro and Yuja
  • Proficiency with HTML and CSS, e-learning software and content development tools as well as ability to build effective training content (e.g. Adobe Captivate, Premiere) a variety of operating systems (OSX, Windows, Mobile) and video recording tools, Microsoft Office 365, Google Apps and Education tools and emerging technologies.
