About this role

About Generation:

At Generation, we believe in the power of employment to change lives. We are a global nonprofit organization that supports adults to achieve economic mobility through employment. Generation trains and places adult learners of all ages into careers that are otherwise inaccessible, working in partnership with governments, employers, and other system actors. We also conduct original research and share data insights on high-priority global workforce transition topics to inform decision-making by workforce system stakeholders. Launched in 2015, Generation comprises a global hub (Generation You Employed, or GYE) and a network of in-country affiliates. To date, the network has 150,000+ graduates and 23,000+ employers across 50 professions and 17 countries.

When learners join Generation, 91% are unemployed, of which nearly half are long-term unemployed.  Three months after completing our program, graduates have an 78% job placement rate, rising to 88% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 79% are hired by repeat employers who have previously hired Generation graduates, and 89% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Employed graduates immediately earn an average of 3-4X their previous earnings.  Two to five years after graduation, 77% of our alumni from upper-middle income countries continue to meet their daily financial needs and 63% can save for the future. To date, Generation’s global graduates have earned more than $1.9 billion in wages. Generation graduates typically have a secondary school background, 52% are female, 28% have dependents, and the majority identify with underrepresented communities in their country.

JOB OBJECTIVES:

The Impact Manager will strengthen Generation’s ability to measure, evaluate, and communicate durable impact across the global network. Reporting to the Lead, Impact Evaluation & Data Advocacy, this role will lead durability measurement and evaluation workstreams, deliver instruction and content for the Durability Academy, and serve as global D&I’s day-to-day counterpart on APAC and SAMEA.

This role combines research rigor, structured problem-solving, and the ability to teach and coach. The Impact Manager will independently own defined evaluation, research, and insight workstreams, manage vendor and research partner relationships, coach Durability Academy partner organizations, and produce high-quality materials for Generation leadership, country CEOs, and funders.

This is a remote position, based in the SAMEA region (India preferred).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Durability & Impact Evaluation

  • Lead defined cross-country durability analyses (employment, earnings, job quality, financial health, and related metrics), from framing through final outputs
  • Shape evaluation framing, research design, and methodological comparability across countries and program models
  • Manage evaluations and research partnerships end to end, including scoping, vendor procurement, contracting support, data-sharing processes, and quality of deliverables
  • Own evaluation briefs, synthesis memos, and funder-ready materials
  • Ensure durability insights are grounded in consistent and reliable underlying data

Durability Academy Instruction & Content

  • Co-facilitate cohort-wide Durability Academy sessions, taking ownership of selected modules over time
  • Serve as a 1:1 coach for a portfolio of cohort partner organizations, guiding them through their theory of change, durability logframe, and measurement plans
  • Maintain and improve Academy content between cohorts, including module materials, milestone documents, logframe templates, and facilitation guides
  • Turn cohort work into reusable examples, case material, and practical guidance for future cohorts and the wider Durability Collective

APAC & India Impact Priorities

  • Act as global D&I's day-to-day counterpart to Generation India and other APAC teams on evaluation, data, and impact priorities
  • Coordinate regional evaluations and research partnerships, ensuring alignment with global methodology and standards
  • Support regional teams on outcomes data, cost-per-learner and ROI inputs, and funder reporting
  • Support onboarding and alignment of regional impact leads with global D&I tools and ways of working
  • Surface regional insights and needs to D&I leadership to inform priorities and planning

Structured Analysis & Insight Communication

  • Translate ambiguous leadership and funder questions into structured analytical approaches, and lead the resulting analyses
  • Develop high-quality slide decks, workshop materials, and written summaries for Generation leadership, country CEOs, and funders
  • Shape coherent impact narratives across decks, reports, and external-facing materials
  • Contribute evidence, data, and methodology inputs to grant proposals and funder engagement

Cross-Functional Delivery & Team Support

  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and dependencies across D&I workstreams, proactively flagging risks and reporting progress
  • Partner with Impact Operations and Analytics colleagues to improve the clarity and consistency of core metrics (e.g., placement, durability indicators, income, living wage, ROI)
  • Provide guidance and quality review for analyst-level work as needed
  • Support D&I team operations such as recruitment and onboarding

ATTRIBUTES (e.g. qualifications, knowledge, skills, and experience):

Required experience and skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in impact evaluation, monitoring & evaluation, research, analytics, consulting, policy, or related fields
  • Track record of independently owning evaluation, research, or analytical workstreams from framing to delivery
  • Experience managing external vendors, research partners, or academic collaborators
  • Experience facilitating workshops, training, or coaching for professional audiences
  • Strong structured thinking and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear insights
  • Strong written communication and slide development skills, including materials for senior leadership or funders
  • Comfort working with data (Excel required; SQL preferred)
  • Ability to operate independently with significant ambiguity and manage multiple workstreams

Preferred experience and skills:

  • Experience in workforce development, economic mobility, education, or related social sector work
  • Experience working with teams in India or the wider SAMEA/APAC region
  • Hands-on experience with survey design, research design, and impact evaluation methodologies, including quasi-experimental approaches
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles or curriculum development
  • Experience working with dashboards (e.g., Power BI) and interpreting metrics
  • Fluency in additional languages beyond English

Mindset:

  • Structured thinker who breaks down ambiguous questions into clear components and approaches, and helps others do the same
  • Intellectually curious and motivated to understand the “why” behind outcomes, not just produce analysis
  • Rigorous and practical, holding a high bar on evidence while keeping measurement useful for partners and programs
  • Takes ownership, proactively flagging risks and proposing solutions
  • Collaborative and low-ego, able to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders, cultures, and time zones
  • Self-reflective and open to giving and receiving frequent feedback
