STEP is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused Human Resources Generalist to support our employees and advance our mission through exceptional HR practices. This position is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys balancing people, processes, compliance, and innovation while contributing to a positive, high-performing workplace culture.

As a key member of the Human Resources team, you will work closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer and organizational leaders to support recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, HR information systems, leave management, compliance initiatives, and employee engagement activities. Your work will directly impact the employee experience and help ensure STEP remains an employer of choice within our community.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Human Resources Generalist plays a vital role in supporting a wide range of HR functions, including:

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Coordinate position postings and recruitment activities
  • Conduct candidate outreach and preliminary screenings
  • Schedule interviews and support hiring managers throughout the selection process
  • Conduct reference checks and pre-employment verification activities
  • Assist with onboarding and new employee orientation

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain employee records and personnel files with strict confidentiality
  • Enter and manage employee data within the HRIS system
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Coordinate background clearances and employment-related documentation
  • Assist with reporting requirements including EEO-1 and other regulatory filings

Benefits & Leave Administration

  • Assist employees with benefit enrollments and changes
  • Coordinate benefit-related communications and documentation
  • Administer and monitor leave of absence processes, including FMLA
  • Coordinate workers' compensation and insurance-related activities

Employee Support & HR Programs

  • Respond to employee inquiries
  • Assist with performance management processes
  • Support employee recognition, wellness initiatives, employee events, and engagement activities

Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate HR processes for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Recommend and implement approved process improvements
  • Support strategic HR initiatives that align with organizational goals

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years of Human Resources experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Professional HR certification such as SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent
  • Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems
  • Knowledge of employment laws, benefits administration, leave management, and compliance requirements
