About this role

Lead the audit team in performing audits/assessment according to DNV standards and protocols, international standards or equivalent national standards and according to the established DNV methodologies/rules, holder of qualifications in accordance with the requirements.

The Lead Auditor is also responsible for planning, executing, and reporting third-party certification audits against relevant quality, health and safety and environmental standards. The role includes managing customer relationships, maintaining competence across schemes, and contributing to a high-performing audit team.

Candidate will be home based. Willingness to travel across UK to client sites is a prerequisite. We are looking for a Lead Auditor who is ideally located in the South of England.

The main areas of responsibility are:

1.   Audit Planning & Execution

  • Conduct Management system certification audits on site at the customer's premises or alternatively remotely if allowed according to applicable standards (i.e. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 etc.) in line with DNV’s methodologies and accreditation requirements.

  • Achieve utilisation in line with company targets.

  • Plan audits efficiently, ensuring optimal travel planning, preparation, and stakeholder alignment.

  • Prepare detailed audit reports, capturing non-conformities, observations, and improvement areas with accuracy and impartiality with the help of an app-based reporting tool

  • Maintain accurate documentation and update internal systems and tools to reflect current audit activities and certification status.

     

2. Customer Engagement & Service Delivery

 

  • Communicate effectively with customers and other audit team members before, during, and after audits, ensuring clarity around audit scope, expectations, and outcomes.

  • Act as a representative of DNV, delivering high-quality service and safeguarding the independent nature of the certification process.

  • Support Key Customer Management (KCM) and Sales teams by sharing relevant customer feedback and identifying opportunities to improve service offerings.

  • Provide guidance to customers on certification processes, regulatory trends, and scheme updates (within boundaries of impartiality).

     

3. Competence Maintenance & Development

  • Maintain up-to-date qualifications and certifications across relevant schemes and pursue new ones where needed 

  • Fulfil annual witness audit, calibration, and training requirements to retain auditor qualifications.

  • Participate in internal knowledge-sharing initiatives and best practice workshops.

 

4. Collaboration & Team Performance

  • Collaborate with Planning, Back Office, Technical, and Sales colleagues to ensure aligned service delivery.

  • Engage actively with the Lead Auditor group and participate in sector-specific meetings, training sessions, or calibration events.

  • Support internal and external projects to improve efficiency, consistency, or customer value across the relevant sectors.

  • Adhere to DNV’s Code of Conduct and act as a culture carrier for quality, sustainability, and professional ethics.

 

5. Market Awareness & Sector Insights

  • Stay informed about evolving customer expectations, emerging food risks, and regulatory changes impacting the audit scope.

  • Identify areas where DNV can enhance its DNV Business Assurance portfolio or strengthen its market position.

Required Qualifications:

  • 9001, 14001, 45001 IRQA Lead Auditor Training.
  • Health and Safety - NEBOSH – General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Environmental - NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or equivalent.

 

Preferable Qualifications:

  • Relevant education, Bachelor level or higher.
