WRS has an immediate opening for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator specializing in underground utilities, including sewer and water mainline installation. This role requires proven experience operating excavation equipment on a civil construction site with a focus on mainline trenching and pipe installation.

Your Responsibilities


  • Equipment operators may perform any combination of duties on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require. 
  • Set up equipment and job sites prior to the operation, including greasing, oiling and completing minor repairs to ensure safe and efficient performance.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, adaptability and attention to detail while producing accurate, high-quality work in a fast paced environment.
  • Operate both in and out of equipment as needed; assist with ground activities including site preparation, pipe laying, and mainline utility installation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, grade plans, and utility drawings with a working understanding of elevations and mainline trench requirements.
  • Safely operate a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, backhoes, graders, front-end loaders, and forklifts, in a civil construction environment.
  • Demonstrate experience operating excavators for mainline trenching, including grading, bedding, pipe placement, and backfill..
  • Must have the ability and knowledge to safely operate various kinds of heavy equipment. 
  • Utilize lasers and elevation tools to achieve precise trench depth, slope, and alignment for sewer and water mainline systems.
  • Work with construction crews operating heavy machinery such as large and small dozers, large and small excavators, backhoes, graders, front-end loaders, and forklifts.
  • Experience with GPS and grade control systems such as Trimble is preferred.Utilizes lasers and basic elevation tools to achieve precise grading and trenching results. Experience with Trimble grade control beneficial. 
  • Willing to travel out of town as project demands require, including overnight stays and flexibility in schedule to support crew and project timelines.


Your Experience & Qualifications


  • 3+ years directly working in Civil Construction, operating multiple pieces of Heavy Equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of site grading, excavation, trenching, and backfilling operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and grade stakes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required, depending on equipment type).
