About this role

Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care is a family-owned company that has been caring for landscapes across the NY, NJ and CT tri-state area since 1964. Our New Rochelle yard is the operational hub for our crews and a daily stop for customers picking up propane, mulch and landscape supplies. We're looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to keep the yard running.

Experience with front end loaders as well as industrial equipment is strongly preferred. This job requires loading trucks and operating other heavy machinery throughout the day, and it also covers the day-to-day work that keeps our yard safe, clean and customer-ready, including propane sales.

What you'll do:

  • Operate front end loaders and other heavy machinery to load trucks with mulch, logs, chips and materials
  • Move, stage and organize material and equipment around the yard
  • Fill and exchange propane tanks for drive-in customers, following all safety procedures
  • Handle propane and yard product sales at the point of sale, including cash, and reconcile transactions at the end of the day
  • Greet drive-in customers and help load mulch and supplies into their vehicles
  • Keep the yard clean, organized and safe, including general upkeep and inventory organization
  • Perform basic equipment checks and flag anything that needs maintenance or repair

Schedule: Full-time, weekdays. Hours match our propane sales hours, so expect early morning starts.

  • Experience operating front end loaders and industrial equipment strongly preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old (required for propane handling)
  • Valid driver's license (required)
  • Comfortable working outdoors year-round and on your feet for most of the day
  • Able to lift and carry propane tanks, mulch bags and supplies safely
  • Reliable, punctual and comfortable interacting with customers face to face
  • Cash handling or point-of-sale experience is a plus

  • We offer a competitive compensation package, $24-$28 hourly based upon experience.
  • Paid training, including propane safety certification
  • Opportunity to grow with a family-owned company that's been around for over 60 years
