Are you an experienced Field Heavy Equipment Mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting challenging equipment failures, working independently, and delivering exceptional customer service? Quinn Company, an authorized Caterpillar dealer, is seeking a skilled Field Heavy Equipment Technician to join our Foothill Ranch team.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced technician who takes pride in diagnosing complex equipment problems, performing quality repairs, and keeping customers' machines operating at peak performance.

 

Experienced Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, and other heavy equipment technicians are encouraged to apply!

Wages

Starting wage will depend on experience and education. $47.60 - $60.71

 

 

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As a Senior Field Heavy Equipment Technician, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair Caterpillar and related heavy equipment at customer locations and job sites.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Travel to customer locations to perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and equipment repairs.

  • Diagnose and repair complex diesel engine, hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, and mechanical failures.

  • Independently determine repair procedures and complete complex field repairs with minimal supervision.

  • Perform component removal, installation, replacement, and repair as needed.

  • Utilize Caterpillar diagnostic software, electronic troubleshooting equipment, and technical service information.

  • Identify the root cause of equipment failures and recommend appropriate repair solutions.

  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment concerns, repair findings, and service recommendations.

  • Coordinate with service supervisors and parts personnel to ensure timely and efficient repairs.

  • Maintain accurate service reports, repair documentation, and required records.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced technicians.

  • Follow established safety procedures while working at customer facilities and job sites.

  • Participate in ongoing Caterpillar technical training and professional development.

  • Travel to other Quinn locations, customer sites, or training facilities as needed.

  • Work overtime or alternate schedules based on customer and business needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive hands-on experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment.

  • Senior or Master Technician-level experience with advanced mechanical and electronic diagnostics.

  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrains, and equipment components.

  • Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment failures.

  • Experience using Caterpillar diagnostic software or comparable heavy equipment diagnostic systems.

  • Caterpillar experience preferred; comparable experience with Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, or other heavy equipment manufacturers is welcomed.

  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage repairs in changing field environments.

  • Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and professional customer interactions.

  • Ability to maintain required tooling and complete accurate service documentation.

  • Willingness to travel to customer locations, attend required training, and work overtime when necessary.

Qualifications

One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school; Minimum five plus year's of CAT dealer experience and ten year's heavy equipment industry experience or equivalent education and experience.
