Under general supervision, the Health Educator I or II plans, implements, and evaluates health education programs for the Tuscarawas County Health Department and its programs by addressing community needs through a health equity lens. Collaborates with other community agencies to ascertain health needs, develops desirable health goals, and determines highest need for public health intervention. Develops and maintains cooperation between public, civic, professional, and volunteer agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Public Health Educator I: A bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Community Health, School Health Education, Health Studies, Nutrition, Health Behavior, Public Health or Nursing or a related field.
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
- Experience with grant writing and implementation
- Public Health Educator II: Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field plus 2 years working; experience in health education or community health -or; A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years’ experience in health education or community health at a health department.
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
- Experience with grant writing and implementation
- Strong communication skills, including written and public speaking.
- Ability to collect and organize data for entry into program database(s).
- Ability to describe program overview to others with accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State regulations, procedures, policies into all aspects of the work.
- Must be able to provide exceptional customer service to those being served.
- Ability to hold a flexible schedule; hours will include evening and weekends.
- Must have a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable in accordance with the agency’s insurance policy.
- Must sign and abide by the agency’s nicotine-free hiring policy.
- Must successfully pass drug screen and background check.
