The Team You'll Join
Decanter is the world's premier wine media brand, renowned for authoritative journalism, Decanter Premium, and the Decanter World Wine Awards. Based in our London office on a hybrid basis, our digital team connects millions of global wine enthusiasts and industry experts. We deliver rich digital content, exclusive paywall features, and interactive events across global platforms. You'll join an innovative, expert editorial group dedicated to expanding audience reach and subscriber engagement.
What you'll do
Reporting to the Managing Director of Decanter in London, you'll manage digital content strategy for a maternity cover period. You'll oversee all pre-paywall and post-paywall content to grow web traffic and expand Decanter Premium subscriptions. In this role, you'll partner closely with the Content Director and Editor, Premium to optimize search rankings and user engagement.
On a daily basis, you'll direct the digital editorial team, manage SEO content planners, and evaluate performance using Google Analytics 4 and Marfeel. You'll oversee subscriber retention initiatives, including newsletters, podcasts, and webinars, to deepen community loyalty. Additionally, you'll analyse conversion metrics and report digital growth trends to senior stakeholders.
- Manage Decanter's digital content strategy to increase audience reach, organic search traffic, and Decanter Premium subscriptions.
- Direct the digital content team, guiding daily editorial workflows, SEO planners, and high-conversion publishing calendars.
- Oversee pre-paywall and exclusive post-paywall content balance to convert casual readers into loyal subscribers.
- Develop subscriber engagement strategies across newsletters, webinars, and podcasts to reduce churn and build loyalty.
- Monitor digital performance metrics using tools like GA4 and Marfeel to deliver actionable reporting to senior leadership.
- Partner with commercial and editorial teams to align content output with advertising opportunities and market trends.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrable leadership experience managing digital editorial teams within consumer, lifestyle, or specialist media publishing.
- Proven track record growing digital audiences, search visibility, and subscription-based content models.
- Strong knowledge of editorial SEO best practices and content planning tools.
- Proficiency with web analytics platforms such as Google Analytics 4 or Marfeel to evaluate performance data.
- Collaborative communication skills with an ability to work effectively across commercial, editorial, and management teams.
- Enthusiasm for premium content and digital reader experiences, with familiarity with wine or luxury lifestyle sectors being a plus.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience managing digital content teams or editorial strategy within a digital publishing environment.
- Demonstrable experience with search engine optimisation (SEO) and web analytics software.
- Practical understanding of paywall strategies, subscription retention, or digital content monetization.
- Ability to work from our London office on a hybrid basis.

The expected range for this role is £60,000 - £75,000
This is a hybrid role, working 2 days per week from our London Office
