About this role

You’ll be working with the Research and Development team

This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion to build products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack), e^Port (charging connector), e^Plug (charging connector) and e^pump (charging station) which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging.

Exponent’s philosophy: Break. Believe. Build.

There’s no playbook for disruption. The only way to create a radical future is to continuously break, believe and build.
Break assumptions and thumb rules.
Believe in the process, the team, and through failures.
Build fast, passionately, and with first-principles thinking

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design wiring harnesses for Electric Vehicle, Battery and Charger applications.
  • Perform cable selection based on current rating, voltage class, temperature, flexibility, and environmental conditions.
  • Select appropriate crimp terminals, lugs, and connectors based on electrical, mechanical, and reliability requirements.
  • Create 2D harness drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
  • Define crimping specifications, wire routing, protection (conduits, tapes, grommets), and sealing strategies.
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and ease of assembly.
  • Validate designs through DFMEA, testing, and field feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive standards (ISO, AIS, LV, etc.) and safety requirements.
  • Support prototype builds, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of field issues.

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals (current carrying capacity, voltage drop, insulation, derating, etc.).
  • Hands-on knowledge of cable types (PVC, XLPE, XLPO, shielded cables, high-voltage cables).
  • Experience in crimp terminal selection, crimping processes, and failure modes.
  • Good understanding of connector systems (automotive connectors, sealing classes, IP ratings).
  • Ability to think from first principles rather than relying only on catalogs or legacy designs.
  • Familiarity with wiring harness design tools (e.g., Rapid Harness, Solidworks).
  • Experience with automotive or EV systems preferred.

What Matters at Exponent

  • Quality of work and attention to detail
  • Structured problem-solving approach
  • Discomfort with mediocre solutions
  • Resilience and learning mindset through failures
