About this role

About NOA

Established in 2022, NOA (Net Zero Africa) is a fully integrated energy company that generates, procures, aggregates and delivers clean, competitively priced electricity to commercial and industrial businesses across South Africa. Licensed as a trader by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (approved 31 January 2025), we exist to REpower the African economy — helping customers reach net-zero while securing long-term energy savings.

Backed by $245 million in equity capital from Old Mutual's African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), we have 1.5 GW of generation capacity under construction, from NOA-owned wind, solar PV and battery storage sites alongside trusted independent power producers (IPPs).

South Africa is at a once-in-a-generation moment in its energy journey. We step up where others hesitate, absorbing the complexity of a young market and turning it into simple, credible solutions our customers and partners can trust — guided by The NOA Way, our intentionally crafted culture of all-in problem solvers who speak simply and truthfully, act big, and own the changes our nation needs.

About the role

NOA Trading is seeking Graduate Energy Analysts for our 12-month graduate programme — a rare opportunity to build a career at the forefront of South Africa's renewable energy transition. We're looking for motivated, capable individuals genuinely interested in a purpose-driven business solving some of the most complex problems in our energy landscape.

Graduates rotate across teams within NOA Trading — Trading Operations, Portfolio Management, Settlements and Commercial — spanning customer-facing/commercial and more technical/analytical roles. Wherever you land, you'll put your analytical skills to work in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, helping South African businesses access affordable, reliable clean energy while meeting their decarbonisation goals.

Key accountabilities:

  • Work with large energy datasets — from customers & generators — using standard technical approaches such as load factors and time-of-use (TOU) analysis.
  • Apply Eskom tariff frameworks, including Energy & Capacity charges, to calculate customer costs and potential savings.
  • Support the determination of optimum energy solutions for customers, optimising for financial metrics (such as operating profit and NPV) & non-financial metrics (such as renewable energy penetration).
  • Provide analytical support across multiple workstreams, including energy forecasting, customer reporting and risk assessment, ensuring your team has the fact base needed to make decisions and engage with customers.
  • Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements & provide analytical support.
  • Support the settlement, contracting & commercial processes that keep NOA's trading operations running smoothly.
  • Help improve the standard tools & models used across the business, including Excel-based models & Python/SQL frameworks.
  • Ensure data accuracy & consistency, supporting compliance with internal standards & customer obligations.
  • Participate in product & process innovation to help scale NOA's energy trading platform.

Role requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Business Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or another quantitative discipline.
  • A strong academic record, with a demonstrated aptitude for analytical and quantitative work.

Experience:

  • No formal work experience is required — this is a graduate-entry role.
  • Relevant vacation work, internships, academic projects or extracurricular activities involving data analysis, financial modelling or quantitative problem-solving are advantageous.

Who we are looking for:

Behavioural competencies:

  • Ability to work independently & take ownership of assigned tasks
  • A customer-focused mindset, with proactive engagement to resolve issues and support business processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams
  • Strong time management, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple deliverables.
  • Adaptability and a genuine willingness to learn new platforms, systems and processes as the business evolves.

Technical & functional competencies:

  • Advanced Excel skills (modelling, formulas & analysis).
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Strong attention to detail & a commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customer technical teams & internal stakeholders
  • Exposure to Python or SQL is advantageous, particularly for more technical analyst roles.
