About this role

About Katapult

Katapult is an AI-first engineering studio connecting senior LATAM talent with startups and companies in the US. We're not a staff-augmentation shop: every person we put in front of our partners represents Katapult, co-creates product, and owns the outcome directly, with no managers or leads acting as a layer in between.

About the Role

Fast growing fintech company that powers transactional workflows for lenders and financial partners, and is now investing in a new phase of product development: evolving from a transactional web platform into a verified, AI-driven architecture that increases throughput and reliability across its core workflows. This is a rare "second engineer" role for someone who wants deep ownership over a system's technical direction not just execution. You'll help design and build a modular platform covering document staging, AI-assisted validation, third-party verification, and fraud detection, replacing manual review processes with a combination of LLM-based and deterministic logic, working closely with the founding engineering team and with high visibility to the executive team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture decisions as the platform evolves from a transactional web application into an agentic, AI-enabled system

  • Design and build a modular pipeline covering document staging, automated rule-based validation, third-party verification, and fraud signal detection

  • Determine where LLMs add real value versus where deterministic, rule-based logic is more reliable, cost-effective, and auditable (e.g., document classification, compliance checks)

  • Build verification and evaluation pipelines with strong hallucination guardrails in a regulated, PII-sensitive environment where errors carry real consequences

  • Architect for extensibility toward future modules, including portfolio management and lender/buyer portals

  • Lay the technical groundwork for SOC 2 compliance without requiring a full rewrite

  • Collaborate closely with a small, senior founding engineering team, shipping autonomously and fast

What We're Looking For

  • Advanced, conversational English. This role requires direct, daily communication with a US-based executive team

  • 6+ years of experience as a senior or staff-level software engineer, with a track record of owning architecture in a growing startup

  • Proven experience building or evolving systems that combine AI/LLM components with deterministic, rule-based logic

  • Hands-on experience with verification/eval pipelines and techniques for reducing hallucination risk in production AI systems

  • Experience with document-heavy workflows: extraction, validation rules, and integration with third-party data sources

  • Strong experience with modern stacks such as Vercel and Supabase (or equivalent)

  • Experience in regulated, compliance-sensitive environments (fintech, healthtech, or similar) is a strong plus

  • Comfortable working with high autonomy, fast iteration, and direct exposure to technical and executive stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience preparing a platform for SOC 2 certification

  • Experience with fraud detection systems

  • Experience in lending, capital markets, or structured finance technology

Work-Life Balance

  • Work from Anywhere in Latin America: Enjoy the freedom to work remotely from any country in Latin America.

  • 23 Days of PTO per Year: Take time to recharge with paid time off, accrued monthly (1.91 days/month).

  • USA Federal Holidays

Financial Benefits

  • Monthly Payment in USD: Get paid in US dollars, no matter where you are.

  • Contractor Agreement with No End Date: Enjoy the stability of a long-term contract.
