Forensic Accountant

To support and assist our team of senior forensic accountants investigate, quantify and report financial losses relating to various aspects of insurance claims including but not limited to: Business Interruption Loss, Stock/Inventory Loss and Additional Expenses. 

The Forensic Accounting Services division of Sedgwick are our experts in measuring economic loss. They work extensively with both our loss adjusting colleagues and external parties, such as lawyers, to measure the value of commercial claims. Their work is varied and diverse and includes exposure to claims across a diverse range of industries such as retail, hospitality, mining and logistics.  

Examples of their work includes: 

  • Investigating and quantifying claims for business interruption (loss of profit) 

  • Measuring and valuing large stock losses 

  • Investigating and quantifying employee fraud and cybercrime

  • Measuring losses stemming from events such product recalls and third party recoveries 

  • Preparing expert witness reports for matters in dispute, including personal injury 

  

The FAS team in Australia currently comprises over 30 forensic accountants and is seeking to add additional resources to our team in  Melbourne. 

This is an entry-level role into forensic accounting and would involve extensive training and mentoring from members of our senior team. It would suit a candidate who has 1-2 years’ experience in accounting roles within audit, insolvency, commerce or analytics and is ready to apply these skills to the specialist field of forensic accounting. 

  

Responsibilities: 

  • Reviewing financial data and assisting the forensic accounting team in determining business trends and building financial models

  • Managing communications, including telephone calls and emails, amongst different insurance claim stakeholders, including brokers, insured parties and insurance companies

  • Assisting with data collection and data entry on a range of different matters, including insurance and litigation assignments

  • Working on a portfolio of varied assignments across the Forensic Accounting business (as outlined above) 

About you: 

  • Degree qualified and in the process of obtaining a CA or CPA (or willingness to commence)

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel 

  • Ability to build financial models in Excel, including the use of basic and complex formulas 

  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills 

  • Would describe themselves as “financially curious”: a critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Demonstrated business acumen 

  • Naturally enthusiastic and collaborative within a team
