What We Offer

This internship is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. The City and County of Denver offers a competitive pay rate to commensurate with education, with the pay range for this position between $19.29 hourly. This position is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location

This is a fully onsite internship located at Denver International Airport. The intern’s work schedule will be flexible to accommodate their current academic commitments. Hours will not exceed 60 hours over a two-week pay period (i.e., an average of 30 hours per week).

Denver International Airport is currently seeking a Fleet Technician Intern. As part of our Fleet Maintenance Team, you will train under a Mentor for 6-12 months to help maintain and repair equipment and vehicles from Light Duty Cars and Truck, Medium/ Heavy duty trucks, Police Motorcycles to Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) Trucks, including one of the largest and most technically advanced airport snow removal fleets in North America. This will include performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting/diagnosis, repair, and overhaul of these state-of-the-art diesel, gasoline, and alternative fuel vehicle and equipment assets. 

As an intern you will get to experience:

  • Inspect equipment brought to shop for structural integrity and other potential safety and maintenance problems.

  • Conduct routine and annual inspections and performs preventive maintenance services on all vehicles

  • Repair or replaces worn parts not requiring major mechanical work. Identifies and reports to supervisor any major problems requiring mechanical attention

  • Inspect primary and auxiliary operating systems for loose and worn parts, hydraulic systems for faulty cylinders, hoses, or fittings, and air systems. Inspect equipment for proper fluid levels, adds fluid as necessary, and replaces filters.

  • Lubricate auxiliary attachments, suspensions, moving parts, and wearing surfaces on equipment. Replace air compressor filters and air lines. Remove, repairs, and replaces wheels and tires on equipment

  • Respond to emergency road service on tires, tubes, and wheels of specialized and heavy-duty automotive equipment, utilizing hydraulic jacks and lifts

  • Provide vendor escorts for vehicles services and Fleet deliveries

  • Remove and replaces sealed beam lighting units, light bulbs, light bars, and fuses. Operate all types of vehicles and equipment to servicing and storage areas. Wash and steam clean equipment and cleans work area

  • Assist higher level technicians on routine to complex shop duties and repair. Observe all common safety practices

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Any one position may not include all the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following interests, characteristics and skills:

  • ASE Certification in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Truck a plus but not required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Current enrollment in a trades or vocational accredited program leading to a certificate, licensure, or associates degree, or a recent graduate (within 1 year of completion of a specified program). The field is specific to the de-partmental and/or work assignment.
    Experience Requirement: None
    Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
    License/Certifications: Require a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
