Job Description

Ready to help shape the fire safety foundations of the first nuclear power station built in a generation? Do you thrive on influencing operational readiness, working with stakeholders, and creating safer environments in complex, highly regulated industries?

At EDF, Success is Personal. As a Fire Safety Subject Matter Expert, you'll help create the standards, systems, and culture that support safe operations at Hinkley Point C while developing a career that's unique to you.

The Opportunity

As a Fire Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME), you'll play a vital role in preparing Hinkley Point C for safe and successful operations. Working within the Commissioning and Operations programme, you'll help establish fire safety management arrangements, governance, and operational readiness activities that support one of the UK's most significant energy projects and EDF's journey towards An Electric Britain.

You'll join us on a salary starting of £67,000 per annum. This is an onsite role based at #HinkleyPointC, #Bridgwater, where you'll work closely with operational, engineering, and regulatory stakeholders to support startup readiness and long-term compliance.

This is an opportunity to influence how fire safety is embedded across a new nuclear power station. From supporting WANO readiness activities and fire prevention programmes to developing operational documentation, fire protection arrangements, and emergency response planning, your expertise will help shape the future operation of the station.

Who You Are

We're looking for an experienced Fire Safety SME who enjoys providing specialist guidance, collaborating across teams, and improving fire safety performance within complex industrial or high-hazard environments. Are you experienced in...?

  • Fire management and fire safety design within a complex industrial, nuclear, or high-hazard environment
  • Developing fire safety management arrangements, governance frameworks, and operational fire safety documentation
  • Interpreting and applying UK fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and associated regulations
  • Supporting or participating in World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) reviews and operational readiness activities
  • Conducting Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Hazard Analyses within commissioning or operational environments
  • Working with multiple stakeholders to implement fire prevention, compliance, and fire protection programmes
  • Producing fire safety documentation and arrangements that support operational readiness and regulatory compliance

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Developing fire safety governance arrangements and operational readiness strategies for the future station
  • Leading Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Hazard Analyses with input from key project stakeholders
  • Supporting the implementation of fire prevention strategies, fire prevention programmes, and fire protection arrangements
  • Providing specialist advice on fire legislation, regulatory compliance, and fire protection systems
  • Contributing to emergency preparedness, response planning, and WANO performance readiness activities

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of £67,000 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it's your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we're committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.
