About this role

The Analyst II, FinOps turns multi-cloud usage and billing data into clear financial insights and measurable business outcomes. This role manages cloud cost reporting, budgeting and forecasting, commitment-based discount strategies, and cost optimization initiatives while partnering with Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and business stakeholders to improve cloud value and accountability.

Day in the Life of the Analyst II, FinOps:

  • Manage and analyze cloud spend across Azure, AWS, IBM Cloud, and other providers, reconciling billing, usage, pricing, credits, and allocation data.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and recurring reports for budget versus actuals, forecasts, cost drivers, unit economics, allocation, commitment coverage and utilization, and realized savings.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, validate, and reconcile large cloud cost and usage datasets from billing exports, databases, and cost-management platforms.
  • Support cloud budget and forecast cycles, investigate variances, maintain assumptions, and provide decision-ready insights to Finance, Engineering, and business owners.
  • Manage complex commitment portfolios, including reservations, savings plans, and committed-use discounts; evaluate break-even points, coverage, utilization, flexibility, expirations, exchanges, renewals, and purchase recommendations.
  • Identify, quantify, prioritize, and track cost reduction opportunities such as rightsizing, eliminating idle resources, improving storage and data-transfer efficiency, and optimizing platform or database consumption.
  • Improve cost allocation through account and subscription structures, tagging standards, shared-cost methodologies, and showback or chargeback reporting.
  • Monitor spend anomalies and budget thresholds, investigate root causes, coordinate corrective actions, and communicate material financial risks promptly.
  • Partner with Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and cloud vendors to translate cost data into practical recommendations that balance savings, performance, reliability, and delivery needs.
  • Coordinate FinOps projects from scope and business case through execution and benefits validation, maintaining plans, owners, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder updates.

Required Qualifications - About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, data analytics, computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud cost management, financial analysis, business intelligence, data analytics, cloud operations, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing billing and usage across cloud platforms; working knowledge of Azure, AWS, and IBM Cloud cost-management concepts is strongly valued.
  • Strong Power BI skills, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, dashboard design, scheduled refreshes, data quality controls, and audience-appropriate visualization.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience querying, joining, transforming, and validating large financial, operational, or cloud usage datasets.
  • Experience evaluating and managing cloud commitment discounts, including reservations, savings plans, or committed-use discounts, using coverage, utilization, break-even, and risk analysis.
  • Experience with cloud budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cost allocation, anomaly management, and tracking realized versus projected savings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple analytical or cost optimization initiatives, organize dependencies and risks, and deliver results with limited supervision.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and financial findings to engineering, finance, procurement, and leadership audiences.

Highly Preferred:

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent cloud financial management training.
  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or an AWS, Azure, or IBM Cloud certification relevant to cloud operations, architecture, or cost management.
  • Experience with the FinOps Framework, FOCUS-aligned cost data, unit economics, showback or chargeback, and cost allocation or tagging governance.
  • Experience automating data ingestion, reporting, or cost controls with APIs, Python, PowerShell, or cloud-native tooling, and working in a SaaS or large-scale technology environment.
