Job Summary

The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing field service activities at customer sites in a safe and efficient manner. This role includes troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and diesel equipment, performing preventative maintenance, managing parts inventory, and identifying and resolving safety issues related to company and customer-owned equipment. The technician will work directly with customers across multiple sites and technologies and will use strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and provide effective solutions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a safe working environment and culture within the organization.
  • Perform field service activities and troubleshoot equipment at customer sites.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and support the repair of mechanical, electrical, and diesel equipment.
  • Identify and resolve safety issues involving company and customer-owned equipment.
  • Manage and maintain parts inventory as needed to support field service activities.
  • Take care of company property, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and provide effective solutions to service needs.
  • Work effectively as part of a team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate accountability, innovation, and empowerment in support of a high-impact culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–2 years of technical work experience; 1 year preferred.
  • Experience in field service, mechanical, electrical, diesel, fusion, industrial equipment, or related technical work preferred.

Skills

  • Electrical, mechanical, diesel, and/or fusion experience depending on business unit.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and smart devices.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize technical information and communicate it clearly.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to develop solutions and solve problems in new and unexpected situations.

Travel and Driving Requirements

  • Daily local travel to customer sites is required, with overnight travel as needed based on business needs.
  • This position requires operating a company vehicle. Candidates must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record that meets company standards.
  • Candidates must successfully complete all required driver, DOT, medical, and background screening requirements.
  • Ability to obtain required customer site clearances, including TWIC, DISA, or other site-specific credentials, as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

The estimated pay range for this position is $27 to $29 per hour. At Xylem we offer a competitive compensation package with a generous benefit package, including Medical, Dental, Vision plans, 401(k) with company contribution, paid time off, paid parental leave and tuition reimbursement.
