About this role


Position Summary

The Family Violence Prevention Specialist provides trauma-informed, survivor-centered support to individuals impacted by domestic and sexual violence and stalking, with a specialized focus on survivors and families involved with the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). Support includes crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, advocacy, and connection to resources, along with collaboration and consultation with DCYF staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following reflect core duties; other tasks may be assigned as needed.


DCYF & FVPS Collaboration

  • Provide advocacy and support to survivors and families involved with DCYF.
  • Provide consultation, education, training, and resources to DCYF staff regarding domestic violence and survivor needs.
  • Collaborate with DCYF staff to support survivor safety, access to services, and informed case planning.
  • Participate in family meetings, court hearings, home visits, and other case-related activities as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with DCYF staff and other professionals involved with families.
  • Maintain required FVPS documentation and data in accordance with program and funding requirements.

Direct Advocacy Services

  • Provide in-person and phone-based advocacy for individuals impacted by domestic and sexual violence and stalking.
  • Offer crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, peer support, and referrals.
  • Facilitate and/or support survivor support groups, as assigned.
  • Accompany clients to hospitals, police departments, Child Advocacy Centers (CACs), and court proceedings as needed.
  • Assist with shelter intake and follow-up support when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and appropriate data entries in the client services database.
