About Our Family

We are a busy, close-knit household with two young children and one very lovable, energetic large dog. Our days are full between school, activities, work, and everything it takes to keep a home running smoothly. We are an organized family who values a calm, well-run home, but the day-to-day responsibilities can quickly add up — and that is where this role comes in.

We are looking for someone who can truly become an extension of our household: someone who notices what needs to be done, steps in without waiting for direction, and helps create more breathing room for our family. We appreciate someone who takes initiative, enjoys building systems, and finds satisfaction in making a home feel organized, functional, and cared for.

The right person for this role will feel like a trusted partner in our home — someone who enjoys being around children, loves dogs, communicates openly, and genuinely wants to help. Our children are energetic and full of personality, and our dog is friendly, protective, and sheds (a lot!). If you enjoy a warm, family-centered environment where your work truly makes a difference, you will feel right at home here.

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

  • Anticipate what needs to be done and take initiative without waiting to be asked
  • Ask "what else can I help with?" rather than waiting for direction
  • Bring genuine enthusiasm for helping a household run smoothly — not just going through the motions
  • Collaborate naturally, checking in when needed and proactively flagging anything that could be done better
  • Demonstrate reliability above all else — show up consistently, on time, and as scheduled
  • Bring experience working with young children, including navigating toddler emotions with patience and warmth
  • Feel comfortable and at ease around large, energetic dogs
  • Communicate openly and comfortably — ask questions, share ideas, and keep the lines of communication clear
  • Adapt to a home environment that is warm, fast-paced, and family-centered
  • Bring an organized mindset and a natural eye for detail — noticing what's out of place and taking care of it
  • Open to occasional travel with the family approximately once per year (airfare, lodging, and meals covered; per diem for working days — not a dealbreaker but a strong plus)

Key Responsibilities

Family Support

  • Provide light supervision and backup childcare during after-school hours as needed
  • Support children's after-school activity schedule, including being present with one child while the other is at an activity
  • Occasional extended evening support up to once per month with advance notice
  • Occasional overnight supervision as backup (once or twice per year maximum; advance notice always given)

Meal Support

  • Prepare two family dinners per week, hot and ready to eat on a consistent schedule
  • Prep snacks, wash, and chop fruits and vegetables (kids eat fruit at every meal)
  • Follow family dietary preferences and accommodate picky eaters
  • Kitchen clean-up and maintenance after meal prep

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Daily resets and light tidying: toys off the floor, surfaces cleared, high-traffic areas freshened
  • Unload the dishwasher and manage basic kitchen upkeep
  • Prep home ahead of bi-weekly housekeeping visits
  • Assist with unpacking and settling into the home as time allows
  • Seasonal clothing swaps (particularly sizing through children's clothing)
  • Holiday decoration setup and takedown
  • Change batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors as needed
  • Packing and unpacking for family travel
  • Organize and tidy the family vehicle on a weekly basis

Laundry & Linens

  • Put away clean, folded laundry in the appropriate rooms
  • Maintain a tidy and organized laundry area

Inventory & Errands

  • Manage and restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies
  • Run curbside pickup orders (HEB, Target) and in-store errands as needed
  • Handle Amazon, Costco, and Target orders and subscriptions
  • Process returns and handle occasional gift shopping
  • Bring in packages from the porch and break down boxes for recycling

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Seasonal deep cleans of fridge and pantry (clearing expired items, reorganizing)
  • Organize laundry room and household storage areas
  • Sort through children's toys every 3 months; prepare donations for drop-off or pickup
  • Refresh mudroom and entry area (shoes on racks, backpacks hung)
  • Coordinate donation drop-offs to Goodwill or similar

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Research and coordinate handyman repairs and service quotes
  • Oversee cleaners and contractors when present in the home
  • Maintain outdoor spaces: refill bird feeders, wipe down outdoor play areas

Pet Care

  • Comfortable being around and feeding a large dog
  • Dog walking a strong plus but not required
