The Opportunity
The Fabricator builds and assembles custom sign components, frames, cabinets, structures, and other metal-fabricated products that move through Stratus manufacturing. This hands-on role works from manufacturing orders, drawings, measurements, and job specifications to cut, form, weld, assemble, and finish materials accurately and safely. Fabricators use a variety of shop equipment and hand tools, complete required production documentation, and partner with other manufacturing teams to deliver quality work on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Read manufacturing orders, drawings, measurements, and job specifications and translate them into accurate fabrication work.
- Cut, form, drill, tap, weld, assemble, and finish aluminum, steel, and other materials used in sign cabinets, frames, structures, dimensional signs, post-and-panel signs, and related products.
- Operate assigned fabrication equipment safely, which may include MIG spool-gun welders, notchers, chop saws, extrusion saws, ironworkers, plasma cutters, shears, press brakes, stud guns, punch presses, and other hand or power tools based on training and job requirements.
- Measure materials accurately and verify dimensions, fit, alignment, weld quality, and overall workmanship throughout the fabrication process.
- Complete required production documentation, including job completion records, material usage, timekeeping, and requisition information.
- Inspect tools and equipment before use, perform routine cleaning or basic maintenance within training, and promptly report equipment concerns or unsafe conditions.
- Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Assembly, Paint, Quality, and other manufacturing teams to resolve questions, material issues, drawing discrepancies, or production constraints.
- Support material handling, staging, packing, loading, or movement of fabricated components using safe lifting and material-handling practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow established housekeeping, tool-storage, and material-storage standards.
- Follow all required PPE, machine-safety, welding, hot-work, material-handling, and plant safety procedures and stop or escalate work when conditions are unsafe.
- Support team development through collaboration, cross-training, and sharing fabrication knowledge as experience grows, and remain flexible to support overtime or changing production priorities when needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; trade-school or technical training in welding, fabrication, metalworking, or a related discipline is a plus.
- 1-2 years of fabrication, welding, metalworking, sign manufacturing, or similar production experience preferred; relevant trade-school training may be considered in place of experience.
- Working knowledge of basic fabrication methods, metals, fasteners, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately and apply basic shop math to dimensions, layouts, and fabrication tasks.
- Ability to read and follow manufacturing orders, drawings, blueprints, and job instructions; experience interpreting welding symbols or engineering drawings is a plus.
- Experience with aluminum spool-gun welding or other MIG welding processes preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn fabrication equipment such as notchers, saws, ironworkers, plasma cutters, shears, press brakes, punch presses, and similar machinery.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on dimensional accuracy, fit, finish, quality, and minimizing rework.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, kneel, and safely move materials or equipment as required for fabrication work, using team lifts or material-handling equipment when appropriate.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, proper PPE use, housekeeping, and timely reporting of hazards or equipment concerns.
