Job Description

The salary for this role is £51,317. Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working. 

This role can be based at any of the following sites: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to be eligible for SC Clearance (must have resided in the UK for the last 5 years), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. 

The Role

As Export Compliance Lead, you will play a pivotal role in understanding, applying and implementing Export Control compliance obligations at business level as the subject matter expert (SME) supporting these exciting programmes within UKAEA. You will report to the Transport Manager within the Transport Team at UKAEA. The job holder will also be supporting the implementation of import/export arrangements at UKAEA, this will include the provision of advice on the regulatory aspects of the transfer of controlled items/technology and the overseeing of consignments to and from site.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to bring your existing export control knowledge to an established and growing team and support the business as we move towards delivery of the projects. Your background could be from a range of industries, what's key is that you have experience in export controls and government policies surrounding Export Control

Key Responsibilities:

  • Navigate The UK Strategic Export Control Lists to form the basis of determining whether any products, software or technology that you intend to export are ‘controlled’ and therefore require an export licence.
  • Provide authoritative advice to projects and managers on transport and import/export.
  • Support the interface with the relevant Regulators or external authorities.
  • Make export licence applications (applications and applying licence conditions).
  • Provide assurance of the adequacy of transport arrangements through overview of audits, inspections, investigation of events and self-assessment reviews. Ensure effective communication with respect to export control and transport of dangerous goods across UKAEA to include the delivery of training (Radioactive Materials Co-Ordinator, Export Control and the creation of CBT packages) and the maintenance of the transport of dangerous goods and export control sections on Nucleus.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent business experience.
  • ITAR Export Control Regulation – ECOP Certificate – Formal Professional qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience with a view to undertaking certification.  
  • EAR Export Control Regulations – ECOP Certificate - Formal Professional qualification to be resat every 2 years or demonstrable equivalent experience with a view to undertaking certification.  
  • Detailed experience of export control laws and regulations.
  • Experience of conducting effective investigations and audits.
  • Be a subject matter expert to support and advise on export control enquiries in a timely manner.
  • Acquire a thorough knowledge of Government policy and concerns relevant to import-export and export control.
  • High degree of computer literacy.
