A Brief Overview

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking an Evidence-Based Practice Specialist. This will be a Monday-Friday hybrid position. Three days/week will be onsite and two days/week will be AWA.


Serves as an organizational expert and nurse leader in evidence based nursing practice (EBP), representing Nursing and Clinical Care Services internally and externally. Responsible for assessing and developing the infrastructure to support a high-level program of evidence-based practice across organization where nursing is practiced, including inpatient and ambulatory areas. Contributes to initiatives that build a culture of inquiry. Accountable for the conceptualization, development, implementation, and evaluation of a pediatric nursing EBP curriculum to support nurses at all levels to function at the top of their licensure and training across the organization. Collaborates with peer nursing leaders to develop, implement, and evaluate an evidence-based professional development and advancement curriculum to support professional growth from novice to expert. Principal contributions are scientific and intellectual, characterized by originality and creativity.

What you will do

  • Assesses, conceptualizes, develops, implements and evaluates EBP curriculum to support nurses at all levels to function at the top of their license and training across the organization, including in inpatient and ambulatory areas.
  • Contributes to high quality patient care in a safe healing environment by mentoring others in the integration research, education and practice.
  • Collaborates, mentors, and provides direction in the design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of inter-professional EBP projects across the organization.
  • Ensures EBP initiatives are aligned with Departmental priorities.
  • Guides others in the interpretation, evaluation, and application of research and evidence based practice publications.
  • Conducts regular gap analyses and determines strengths and opportunities for advancing depth and breadth of EBP across organization.
  • Translates scientific evidence to practice; and facilitates competency development of same across the organization.
  • Secures funding through grant writing and proposal development for EBP projects.
  • Prepares, manages, and monitors allocation of resources relative to EBP.
  • Participates in shared governance and in the DNP networking group
  • Improves standards and guidelines; and questions and evaluates current practice based on outcomes and a review of the literature.
  • Seeks opportunities to teach, coach and mentor and to be taught, coached and mentored; facilitates active involvement and complementary contributions of others in team meetings and discussions regarding patient care and/or practice issues; involves/recruits diverse resources when appropriate to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Uses data and other sources of evidence to inform decision making.
  • Uses evidence for establishment of standards, practices and patient care models in the organization.
  • Designs feedback mechanisms by which to adapt practice based upon outcomes from current processes.
  • Designs and interpret outcome measures.
  • Disseminates research findings to patient care team members.
  • Uses evidence-based metrics to align patient outcomes with the organization's goals and objectives
  • Role models standards of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership) for colleagues and constituents Contribute to the advancement of the profession
  • Participate in and contribute to professional organizations.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the strategic plan for the Center for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice.
  • Prepares manuscripts and abstracts for publication; Publishes in refereed / peer reviewed journals
  • Achieves and maintains professional certification.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Required
  • Doctorate Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years experience contributing to research utilization in a clinical nursing environment. Required
  • Experience with EBP or related curriculum development. Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience managing programs and projects. (Preferred proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required

SALARY RANGE:

$117,900.00 - $156,300.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
