About this role

POSITION SUMMARY

The EHS Specialist is primarily responsible for verifying the firm complies with its health and safety plan; preparing site-specific health and safety plans, conducting regular site visits to confirm that the plan is being implemented, and making recommendations to management on plan improvements as field conditions change. The EHS Specialist facilitates safety and environmental reviews and works with management and staff to improve company programs and policies.

Essential Functions:

  • Leading and facilitating safety program activities by training and developing all team members and helping to create and sustain a robust safety culture.
  • Guiding and promoting safe work performance through development, implementation, and enforcement of safety management systems, programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with OSHA requirements.
  • Conducting on-site safety and environmental reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and working with site personnel to improve programs.
  • Performing accident/incident investigations and planning corrective action.
  • Organizing, maintaining, and ensuring all environmental and safety compliance records are organized and maintained in accordance with corporate specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Developing and overseeing any and all activities which involve or require Environmental, or Safety, and Industrial Hygiene procedures, programs, permits, licenses, and approvals.
  • Providing safety and health technical support to project teams.
  • Maintaining a visible field presence on assigned projects.
  • Participating with the project team in safety-related planning and problem-solving.
  • Participating and leading, where appropriate, site monthly safety committee meetings as required.
  • Identifying, anticipating, and taking action to address Environmental, Health, and Safety concerns, hazards, exposures, and unsafe practices.
  • Performs any other duties per the direction of the EHS Manager/Director.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact with all employees and management
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Ability to travel to different job sites as needed (travel 10-50%)


SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in a safety-related field.

Experience:  A minimum of 5 years in the construction industry applying Environmental, Health, and Safety programs and systems in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.

 

Computer Skills:  Competence in Microsoft Office applications required

Certificates & Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety training required
  • OSHA 500, or the ability to become certified
  • First Aid/CPR training

 

Other Requirements:

Supervisory experience, knowledge of state or Federal, local laws related to position


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

May at times be required to lift items weighing no more than 50 pounds. While performing job duties, may be required to sit, stand, or walk around for extended periods of time.


Other Physical Requirements:

Will be required to wear common Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as steel-toe boots, safety vest, hard hat, etc.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work will involve exposure to all weather conditions such as hot, humid, rainy, and/or snowy winter, combined with regular work time indoors in environmentally-controlled conditions. Will regularly work in an outdoor construction project environment.
