About this role

What You Will Do:

The Emergency Management Analyst is responsible for creating and implementing a business continuity framework and strategies to minimize disruptions to the grid and ensure the utility can continue to operate during and after unplanned outages and emergencies. This role will focus on developing and maintaining comprehensive emergency response plans to ensure the safety of employees and the continuity of operations. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage emergency preparedness activities and participate in companywide emergency preparedness planning.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Develop mitigation strategies to proactively prevent utility disruptions from occurring and to detect them quickly to be able to effectively address them.
  • Support incident management during emergencies, coordinate response efforts, and make critical decisions to effectively manage the situation and/or outage.
  • Train staff to effectively respond to emergencies resulting in minimal disruption to the utility.
  • Organize emergency drills for employees to prepare them for unplanned events.
  • Ensure compliance with current Distribution System Code, Market Participant Requirements, Ontario Power System Restoration Plan, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Understand anticipated changes to Bill 238 and ensure compliance where applicable.
  • Work closely with other departments, government agencies, and external partners to coordinate emergency response and business continuity efforts when applicable.
  • Provide lines of business with expert advice and guidance in the identification and management of risks to ensure business continuity.
  • Monitor, track, test, and report on the status of the programs, partnering with lines of business to mature the overall program as well as create training and presentation material.


What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in emergency preparedness and business continuity management, hazard vulnerability and risk assessment, ideally with some experience within a utility setting
  • Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP) or Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) designation preferred
  • Knowledge of Ontario electrical distribution utilities, including the operational, political, and regulatory environment is considered a strong asset
  • Working experience with Mutual Aid arrangements is preferred
  • Strong ability to work effectively under stress during emergencies
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, tools, and techniques with the ability to manage multiple projects at various stages simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License in good standing
  • Must be available to be on call during emergencies and provide after-hours standby support
