About this role

Space is a warfighting domain. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build the technology that secures it.

OUR MISSION

True Anomaly delivers decisive capabilities for space superiority. We build autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors — enabling the U.S. and its Allies to secure the space environment and counter threats from the ultimate high ground.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity.
  • What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results.
  • It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together.

YOUR MISSION

As an Electrical Engineer (Staff or Principal), EMI/EMC at True Anomaly, you will serve as the company's technical authority for electromagnetic compatibility across our spacecraft, from individual avionics units through fully integrated vehicles. You will define the grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering architecture that lets our hardware survive its own electromagnetic environment and the launch and on-orbit environments beyond it. Your judgment will shape designs early, de-risk qualification late, and establish the EMI/EMC standards and practices the broader engineering organization builds on.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own EMI/EMC technical direction across the spacecraft, setting unit- and system-level requirements and flowing them down to avionics, power, RF, and harness teams
  • Define grounding, bonding, isolation, shielding, and filtering architecture at both the box and vehicle level, and drive its implementation into hardware designs
  • Lead EMI/EMC qualification and verification campaigns to MIL-STD-461 and GSFC-7000 (GEVS), including CE/CS/RE/RS test methods, and adjudicate compliance, waivers, and deviations
  • Perform pre-compliance analysis and design reviews early in the development cycle to identify and mitigate emissions and susceptibility risks before they reach qualification
  • Diagnose and resolve complex EMI/EMC issues during bring-up, integration, and test, driving root cause analysis and corrective action across disciplines
  • Develop and review filter designs, shielding effectiveness analyses, cable and harness shielding/return schemes, and PCB-level mitigation guidance
  • Build and mature the company's EMI/EMC test capability, including test plans, procedures, fixturing, and instrumentation for chamber and bench measurements
  • Partner with electrical, RF, power, mechanical, and harness teams to ensure EMC is designed in rather than tested in, and represent EMC in PDRs, CDRs, and customer reviews
  • Establish and document EMI/EMC standards, processes, and best practices, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across the organization
  • Support hardware through production, integration, and launch, ensuring EMC compliance is maintained from first article through delivery

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in EMI/EMC engineering, with demonstrated ownership at both the unit and system level
  • Deep, hands-on experience executing and interpreting EMI/EMC qualification to MIL-STD-461 and GSFC-7000 (GEVS) or equivalent standards
  • Demonstrated expertise in grounding, bonding, shielding, and filtering design for high-reliability electronics
  • Strong working knowledge of CE, CS, RE, and RS test methods and the instrumentation behind them (spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, LISNs, antennas, current probes, network analyzers)
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve EMI/EMC problems during hardware bring-up, integration, and qualification
  • Track record of setting technical direction and standards across multiple programs or teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with spacecraft or other harsh, mission-critical environments (aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical)
  • Experience standing up or significantly improving an EMI/EMC test lab and capability
  • Familiarity with additional standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-464, or applicable CISPR/FCC requirements
  • Experience with EM modeling and simulation tools (CST, HFSS, FEKO, or similar) for shielding, coupling, and antenna-to-platform analysis
  • Knowledge of PCB- and box-level layout techniques for EMC, including stack-up, return paths, and connector/feedthrough filtering
  • Experience supporting EMC requirements in customer-facing design reviews for government or defense programs
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting

COMPENSATION:

  • Base Salary: $165,000-$275,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance
  • Work Location: Successful candidates will be located near our Centennial, CO or Long Beach, CA locations. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
  • Work environment is in a standard office, working at a desk or in a production factory.
  • Physical demands may include frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying items up to 20lbs.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

True Anomaly is committed to equal employment opportunity on any basis protected by applicable state and federal laws. If you have a disability or additional need that requires accommodation, please do not hesitate to let us.
