The Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Coordinator is highly resourceful, and thrives in fast-moving, unpredictable healthcare environments. This role is a key connector between internal care teams, patients, and suppliers—often navigating complex, time-sensitive situations where success depends on the ability to solve problems in real time, anticipate barriers, and drive positive outcomes with limited direction. The DME Coordinator plays a direct role in ensuring patients leave Shepherd Center with the equipment and support they need to continue their recovery safely.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with suppliers, payers, and internal stakeholders to facilitate authorizations and resolve coverage barriers that may delay equipment delivery
  • Communicate patient needs to suppliers and external case managers
  • Provide clear, practical guidance on interactions/coordination between suppliers and patients/families
  • Ensure all documentation meets payer, compliance, and regulatory standards
  • Advocate for patient choice and serve as a central liaison between patients, families, suppliers, payers, case managers, and clinical teams to facilitate timely access to prescribed equipment
  • Provide timely updates regarding equipment status, barriers, and anticipated delivery timelines to clinical and case management teams
  • Participate in team meetings and ongoing education
  • Identify gaps and inefficiencies and propose practical solutions
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in a hospital setting with insurance billing experience desired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (Allied Health, Nursing or Social Work) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time or exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
