SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are seeking a highly organized, community-oriented professional who is equally comfortable responding to constituent requests from the office and attending neighborhood meetings and walks, speaking with residents, identifying emerging community concerns, and representing the Council Office throughout the district.

Supervision Received:
This position reports to the Chief of Staff for District 7.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Constituent services (responding to and resolving complaints and inquiries)
· Serving as a liaison between the Councilmember and stakeholders (constituents, agencies, community leaders)
- Plan, develop, implement and direct highly visible and proactive community involvement programs and activities.
- Staff the Councilmember at meetings and events throughout the district.
· Representing the Councilmember at meetings, hearings, and community events
- Maintain relationships with district stakeholders, including community associations, tenant associations, nonprofit organizations, businesses and schools.
- Identify new and emerging community groups with which to build relationships on behalf of the Councilmember.
- Identify emerging community issues and help guide the office’s response.
- Conduct community outreach around office initiatives, events and press conferences.
- Serve as a point of contact for community associations, tenant associations, nonprofit organizations, businesses and schools.
- Assist constituents with individual concerns, including housing, health care, social services and education.
- Assist with planning and implementation of town hall meetings and other office-sponsored forums.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate. Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts or public administration preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of experience in government, public service or business administration, community service work, program coordination, or a related field.
EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Baltimore City residency preferred.

BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.

ABOUT THE CITY COUNCIL
The City Council is the City's legislative body, with the power to enact all ordinances and resolutions. City Council members are elected from fourteen districts, and the President is elected at large, by all voters of the City. The fifteen City Council members, along with the Mayor, act only by ordinance, resolution, or motion. They adopt and may alter the annual budget and confirm the Mayor's appointments. The City Council is responsible for the appropriation and issuance of bonds. The City Council determines its own rules of procedure, and its meetings are open to the public. City Council members are elected every four years. They are elected to geographic districts of roughly the same proportion of population.
