Overview

The Director of Quality and Patient Safety serves as the facility-based quality leader for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, providing strategic oversight for quality outcomes, accreditation, regulatory readiness, patient safety, and performance improvement. This leader partners closely with hospital executives, medical staff, physician leaders, nursing leadership, Infection Prevention, and Risk Management to advance quality outcomes across a complex 525-bed Level I Trauma Center. The Director is responsible for quality improvement programs, event review and root cause analysis, medical staff peer review, accreditation support, and advancing organizational goals related to patient safety, quality performance, and CMS measures.

  • Master’s Degree (Preferred)

Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse license in VA (Required)

Experience  

  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical management and nursing leadership experience required.

  • 3 years hospital quality leadership experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience leading quality improvement, accreditation, regulatory readiness, and patient safety initiatives.

  • Experience with quality event review, root cause analysis, peer review, and performance improvement programs.

  • Knowledge of CMS requirements, quality reporting, and healthcare regulatory standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, executives, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing quality professionals.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $146,702.40 - $228,966.40 annually. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs. Note: If an annual salary is posted, it is based on a full-time colleague working 2,080 hours annually. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, located in Norfolk, VA, is a 525-bed tertiary care facility that is home to the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads, and also serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School.

In addition to the high-quality heart program at Sentara Heart Hospital, our facility is home to Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and several other dedicated facilities and specialized services. As a recognized accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Magnet hospital for nursing excellence, our hospital specializes in heart and vascular, neurosciences, neurosurgery, urology, oncology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, maternity, and women’s health, including a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit.
