Caterpillar’s EMD division is hiring for Design engineer in Peoria, IL!


Role Summary: In this role you will design, develop, build, and implement new components, products, or technologies.


What You’ll Do (Job Duties)

• Support a broad mix of engineering work. Current Product Improvement and quality issues, Legacy-product maintenance and component obsolescence, New Product Introduction and technology-development projects, Custom products, kits, regulatory changes, cost reduction, and unmet customer needs

• Perform engineering analysis and validation. Evaluate form, fit, function, safety, serviceability, manufacturing impact, and next-higher-level effects, Coordinate analysis, prototype builds, fit-ups, testing, and design reviews.

• Own engineering documentation and release. Create or update models, drawings, bills of material, engineering notices, kit content, and installation or service information, Complete quality reviews and ensure parts and configurations are correctly established in company systems.

• Resolve production and supply issues. Address deviations, supplier questions, assurance-of-supply risks, obsolete parts, and factory or dealer concerns, develop replacement solutions that prevent production interruptions and maintain customer support.

• Collaborate across the organization. Work with system teams, manufacturing, suppliers, purchasing, quality, validation, NPI teams, dealers, and regional engineering groups, engage technical experts when work extends beyond the engineer’s current experience.


What You Have (Core Skills)

  • Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum or related fields.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.

Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Demonstrated experience resolving current-production, quality, supplier, or component-obsolescence issues.
  • Experience owning engineering work from problem definition through design, validation, release, and implementation.
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D modeling, drawing creation, tolerance analysis, and engineering change processes. (CREO and Teamcenter Ideally)
  • Experience evaluating form, fit, function, safety, serviceability, manufacturability, and system-level impacts.
  • Proven ability to manage several projects while responding effectively to urgent production or customer needs.
  • Experience working directly with manufacturing facilities, suppliers, purchasing, quality, validation, and product-support teams.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment, off-highway machines, or related mechanical systems.
  • A record of taking technical ownership, working through ambiguity, and driving issues to closure.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis, risk assessment, prototype builds, testing, and design reviews.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Work location: Peoria, IL

  • This position requires 5 days per week in the office (M-F)

 

 

 

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $133,810.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
