Data Capturer – Xeno


Project Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng


Project: MSF Xeno Project (Emergency response to xenophobic violence & healthcare access barriers for migrants)


Main Purpose Ensure accurate, timely capture and management of all medical, activity and community data for the Xeno Project to support quality monitoring, reporting and decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

  • Capture patient consultations, treatment data, referrals, and activity statistics from mobile clinics, fixed points and outreach into MSF databases (DHIS2, Excel tools or project-specific systems).
  • Verify completeness, accuracy and consistency of data; perform regular data quality checks and corrections.
  • Maintain patient registers, line lists and filing systems in line with MSF data protection and confidentiality standards.
  • Support weekly/monthly reporting (SitReps, medical indicators, HP activities).
  • Flag data gaps or inconsistencies to the Medical Activity Manager / Data Supervisor.
  • Assist with data cleaning, simple analysis and preparation of tables/graphs as required.
  • Ensure proper archiving of source documents.
  • Support surveys, assessments or operational research data collection when needed.
  • Adhere strictly to MSF protocols on data protection, patient confidentiality and information security.


Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric (tertiary qualification in health information, statistics, public health or related field advantageous).
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in medical data capturing (preferably in NGO, clinic or public health setting).
  • Experience with DHIS2, TIER.Net, Excel or similar health information systems preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and numerical skills.
  • Good computer literacy (MS Office, especially Excel).
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-moving emergency response.
  • Fluency in English; additional local languages (isiZulu, Sesotho, French, Portuguese, Shona, etc.) an advantage.
  • Commitment to MSF principles and ability to work with migrant and vulnerable populations.
