What's the role?
This Crewing Manager leads the end to end crewing function for all Company vessels, ensuring they are staffed with competent, compliant personnel aligned with the Crew Model and operational requirements. The role provides strategic oversight of crew planning and deployment, ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time to support safe and efficient project execution. Key responsibilities include:
- Structured engagement with Project Managers to understand project pipelines, risks, and manpower forecasts.
- Lead cross-functional crew planning meetings with Operations and Technical teams to ensure manpower requirements are accurately captured.
- Clear communication with offshore crew, Project Managers, Technical Managers, manning agencies, and senior leadership, ensuring alignment, timely updates, and proactive issue resolution.
- Ensure all crew, including third-party manning agencies assigned to company vessels, hold valid mandatory, safety and technical certifications, with clear procedures and compliance checks embedded into daily operations.
- Ensure strong governance and quality control over all regulatory requirements, including training certifications, visas, permits to work, medical certifications, and vaccination records.
- Drive continuous improvement of crewing procedures, workflows, and cross-function interfaces and systems.
- Conduct ad-hoc audits to ensure the Crewing team maintain accurate, complete and compliant personnel records.
- Ensure all required Crewing information is delivered to Payroll accurately and on schedule on a monthly basis, to enable correct and timely salary processing.
- Act as the focal point for offshore crew queries related to compensation, benefits, and rotation matters, ensuring timely resolution.
- Provide support during crisis management events, ensuring accurate crew movement coordination and communication.
- Lead the governance of the Learning Management System (Ocean Learning Platform β OLP), ensuring robust processes are in place to maintain accurate training records, monitor compliance and uphold all mandatory technical, safety, and regulatory training requirements across the offshore and onshore workforce.
- Support Finance and Project Managers with information requests for budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives related to crew logistics and agency services.
- Lead the selection and evaluation of third party manning agencies, ensuring alignment with company standards, project requirements and compliance obligations.
- Work closely with the Legal Department to draft, review, and finalise contracts with third-party manning agencies.
- Coordinate with Procurement on vendor onboarding and contract lifecycle management.
- Conduct audits of manning agents and escalate non-performance or compliance risks.
- Maintain a preferred agent list based on performance, audit outcomes, and project feedback.
- Awareness of requirements for third-party agencies to meet regulatory, tax, and labour law requirements across operating jurisdictions.
- Develop and maintain a proactive pool of pre screened, technically validated contractors to ensure immediate availability of qualified personnel for short notice project demands.
- Proactively enable the contractor selection process by maintaining a strong understanding of position requirements, project scopes, and competency profiles, enabling rapid identification of suitable personnel.
- Promote sustainable crew planning by minimizing unnecessary crew changes, supporting stable rotations, and maintaining crew continuity where operationally, commercially, and in line with regulatory requirements.
- Work alongside the Operations and Technical teams to develop suitable crew compositions that balance technical capability, experience levels, project needs, and long-term workforce sustainability.
- Provide technical crewing input for commercial tenders ensuring the data provided reflects realistic operational needs and compliant staffing plans.
Who are we looking for?
- Expert knowledge of marine seismic crewing structures.
- Demonstrated ability to lead crewing functions within seismic or marine environments.
- Strong understanding of vessel operations, offshore project cycles, and the unique logistical, regulatory and HSE requirements of the industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of global offshore regulatory requirements, including Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW), flag state rules, visa/work permit processes, medical certification, and training compliance.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in IT systems and applications.
- Strong influencing skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge the status quo, drive alignment across stakeholders, and promote improved ways of working.
- Ability to assess crew competency profiles, identify individual development gaps, and build balanced crews that support operational performance, continuity, and workforce sustainability.
- Possess certification to travel offshore on Company vessels.
- Ability to travel to vessels worldwide.
