About this role


Job Description:


The Mental Health Therapist provides therapeutic services and care coordination using individual, group, and family approaches based on patient needs. Mental Health Therapists deliver evidence-based behavioral health treatment, conduct assessments, develop individualized service plans, and provide integrated care in collaboration with medical and psychiatric providers. Mental Health Therapists are assigned to age-specific or program-specific specialties and may work in outpatient clinics, school settings, community locations, or specialized teams.


Mental Health Therapists must hold an Associate-Level or Independent-Level license through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners and meet Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) standards, consistent with program requirements.

Job Qualifications:

Education

  • Master’s degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Associate-Level License (LAC, LMSW, LAMFT, LASAC) OR Independent-Level License (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LISAC).
  • Must meet eligibility for BHP designation.

Experience

  • Level I – 0-2 years of applied experience at the licensure level
    • Provides therapeutic services under supervision and develops growing competency in complex cases.
    • Demonstrates foundational skills in assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and clinical intervention.
    • Engages frequently with supervisor for clinical guidance and skill development.
  • Level II – 2-5 years of applied experience at the licensure level
    • Demonstrates increased independence in clinical decision-making and case management.
    • Manages moderate to complex cases with minimal supervision.
    • May mentor Mental Health Therapist I staff or assist with program initiatives.
  • Level III – 5 or more years of applied experience at the licensure level
    • Provides advanced clinical expertise on complex or high-acuity cases.
    • May provide peer consultation, clinical guidance, or serve as a subject matter resource.
    • Leads elements of program development, specialty care delivery, or training when assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Independent licensure.
  • Specialized certifications (e.g., DBT, EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT, Motivational Interviewing, etc).
  • Experience in integrated care, school-based services, substance use treatment, or early childhood.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must pass all pre- and ongoing employment screenings.
  • Maintain required training, licensure, certifications, and immunizations.
  • Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • TB testing and Hepatitis B screening or declination required.
  • Must maintain credentials in accordance with Valle del Sol’s Credentialing and Privileging standards.
