About this role

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the company’s accounting function and day-to-day financial operations. The Controller maintains accurate books and records in accordance with U.S. GAAP, manages payroll and working capital processes, develops the company’s accounting systems and internal controls, coordinates annual external audits, and provides management with timely financial and cash-flow reporting.

The Controller also leads the company’s accounting team in Argentina, which manages local financial reporting and planning, accounting operations, and payroll. The Controller serves as the company’s senior accounting professional. The role does not include investor relations, fundraising, securities disclosures, or investment-related financial reporting.

About Our Client

Our client is developing advanced nuclear energy solutions intended to deliver reliable, scalable, and carbon-free electricity for industrial and grid applications.

Its international team brings together nuclear, engineering, commercial, regulatory, and project-development experience. The organization is focused on disciplined engineering, responsible execution, and the deployment of nuclear energy at meaningful scale.

The Opportunity

The Controller will be both the accountable leader and the senior working professional for the company’s accounting function. This is a position of direct execution: the Controller personally runs the U.S. monthly close, prepares financial statements and supporting schedules, maintains the cash forecast, and builds the systems, procedures, and controls the company will rely on as it grows.

The Controller also guides the accounting team in Argentina and brings both countries’ books together into one consolidated picture for management. The role offers the rare opportunity to design an international accounting function deliberately rather than inherit one.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Takes satisfaction in books that close on schedule and reconcile completely.

  • Wants to design and own an accounting function end to end.

  • Has led accounting staff while remaining a strong individual contributor.

  • Is equally comfortable working directly in the ledger and advising executive leadership.

What You’ll Do

Accounting Operations and Payroll

Own the general ledger and maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with U.S. GAAP. You will manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes; prepare income statements, balance sheets, cash-flow statements, and supporting schedules; maintain the chart of accounts and establish consistent accounting policies; and reconcile bank, credit-card, payroll, receivable, payable, fixed-asset, and other balance-sheet accounts, ensuring every transaction is properly documented, classified, approved, and recorded.

You will also oversee payroll processing in coordination with the company’s payroll provider: reviewing payroll reports, deductions, reimbursements, bonuses, and related journal entries; reconciling payroll records to the general ledger; coordinating payroll tax filings; resolving discrepancies; and maintaining appropriate separation of duties and approval controls.

Working Capital, Cash, and Management Reporting

Run the company’s payables and receivables with discipline: vendor onboarding, invoice processing, approvals, payment scheduling, customer invoicing, collections, and aging, with clear approval limits for purchases, payments, credits, and write-offs.

You will monitor bank balances and short-term liquidity, maintain a rolling 13-week cash-flow forecast, prepare longer-term cash projections, flag anticipated shortages, collection risks, and major expenditures early, and manage the company’s banking relationships.

You will also deliver monthly management reporting on an agreed schedule, including budget-to-actual reports with clear variance explanations, useful financial and operating KPIs, and practical recommendations grounded in the numbers, and support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting.

International Team Leadership

Guide and develop the company’s accounting team in Argentina, which manages local financial reporting and planning, accounting operations, and payroll for the Argentine organization.

You will set consistent accounting policies, close calendars, and control standards across both countries; review and validate the team’s work; consolidate Argentine results into company-wide financial and management reporting, including intercompany and foreign currency accounting; and coach the team across time zones while remaining personally accountable for the accuracy of consolidated results.

Systems, Controls, Audit, and Compliance

Evaluate the company’s accounting, payroll, expense-management, billing, and reporting systems, then recommend and implement the platform the company should grow on.

You will design scalable workflows for procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, payroll, expense reimbursement, and financial close; develop documented accounting procedures and internal controls; and improve automation, reporting accuracy, data integrity, access controls, and audit trails.

You will serve as the principal company contact for annual external audits or financial reviews, preparing schedules and supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests; coordinate federal, state, local, payroll, sales-tax, and business-tax filings with external professionals; monitor compliance with debt agreements, contracts, and accounting policies; and track findings through to corrective action.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including prior service as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Director, or senior Accounting Manager.

  • Demonstrated personal ownership of month-end close, financial statement preparation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash forecasting, and external audits.

  • Experience supervising accounting staff or reviewing the work of other accounting professionals.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls.

  • Experience selecting or implementing an accounting or ERP system.

  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with modern accounting and reporting platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA license, strongly preferred for the company’s senior-most accounting role.

  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish, strongly preferred because the role involves regular collaboration with the company’s accounting team in Argentina.

  • Experience with multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, or foreign currency translation.

  • Experience building or substantially upgrading an accounting function in a growing company.

  • Experience in energy, engineering, manufacturing, or another asset-intensive or project-based industry.

The Candidate We Are Seeking

The strongest candidate will be a working accounting leader who has personally closed the books, prepared the statements, and faced the auditors, and who now wants full ownership of the function.

The position may be an excellent next step for an Assistant Controller or senior Accounting Manager ready to become a company’s senior accounting professional. Candidates should be prepared to discuss the closes, audits, systems, and teams they have personally owned.
