Job Description

Are you a results-driven professional who thrives on helping people reach their goals? As a Loan Specialist, you’ll be the trusted guide for members applying for loans. From the very first conversation, you’ll work to build strong relationships, create positive experiences, and provide solutions that make a real difference in members’ financial lives.

This is not an underwriting position—it’s the front-end process, focused on creating strong member relationships, identifying good loan opportunities, and preparing applications to pass on to the processor and underwriter. You’ll also have opportunities to cross-sell other financial products that protect members and strengthen the credit union.

Key Responsibilities

• Build lasting relationships with members while guiding them through the loan application process
• Confidently present and explain loan products, ensuring members feel supported and informed
• Collect and review loan applications, pull credit reports, and ensure data is complete and accurate
• Partner with the Loan Supervisor to structure strong loan applications for approval
• Communicate loan decisions clearly and professionally to members
• Identify cross-sell opportunities for deposit products, credit cards, insurance, and loan protection products
• Support the lending team and assist other departments as needed

Qualifications

• Self-motivated and results-driven with excellent influencing skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with a relationship-first mindset

• Knowledge of loan products and lending processes (or willingness to learn quickly)

• Some experience in a financial institution (teller or MSR, lending)

• Detail-oriented and accurate with application documentation

• A collaborative team player with flexibility to support multiple areas

Compensation & Benefits:  $40K annually + AGGRESSIVE monthly sales incentives (no cap)
