Salary Band: Band 4 ($56,182 – $84,272 · $28.81 – $43.22/hr)



POSITION PURPOSE

The Community Engagement & Events Coordinator supports the planning, organizing, and implementation of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government community events, communications initiatives, and engagement efforts. Working closely with the Manager, Communications, this role ensures events are welcoming, well-organized, respectful, and culturally appropriate for citizens, Elders, staff, and guests.


ACCOUNTABILITY

Communications Support

  • Assists the Manager, Communications with planning, organizing, and implementing communication initiatives across social media, newsletters, and internal/external publications.
  • Helps draft, format, and distribute content that reflects YG voice, values, and cultural protocols.
  • Supports the maintenance of communication calendars, distribution lists, and content archives.

Event Planning & Coordination

  • Supports the planning and coordination of community events, meetings, workshops, and gatherings.
  • Maintains event schedules, task lists, supply lists, attendance records, and post-event reports.
  • Identifies and communicates issues, risks, or supply needs before and during events.

Event Setup & Logistics

  • Assists with event setup, takedown, preparation, signage, and materials.
  • Coordinates event supplies, food, hospitality, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Carries out errands, pickups, and deliveries related to event preparation.

Community & Cultural Hosting

  • Helps ensure events are welcoming, organized, respectful, and culturally appropriate.
  • Supports Elders, citizens, community members, and guests during events as needed.
  • Works with cultural advisors to incorporate Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ language, protocols, and traditions into events.

Administration & Records

  • Maintains organized event files, contact lists, and vendor records.
  • Tracks event-related expenses and supports reconciliation with the Communications budget.
  • Performs other related communications or event coordination duties as assigned.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Grade 12 Diploma; additional administrative, communications, hospitality, or event-management training is an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience supporting events, community programs, or hospitality work is welcomed; recent graduates and those completing practicums are encouraged to apply.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle (required for event-related pickups, deliveries, and travel across territory).
  • Ability to lift, move, and set up event supplies (up to 20 kg).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when events require it.


Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture, language, and protocols.
  • Previous experience supporting First Nations community events or programs.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Mailchimp, or similar communications tools.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Combination of office, community, and on-site event environments.
  • Requires periods of standing, lifting, and active event setup and takedown.
  • Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, are required around scheduled events.
  • Some travel within Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ territory and to nearby communities is expected.

  • Demonstrates respect for Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ culture, language, and protocols in all aspects of community engagement and event hosting.
  • Works under the guidance of cultural advisors and Elders to ensure events reflect Nuu-chah-nulth values and traditions.
  • Willingness to participate in cultural orientation and ongoing learning opportunities.
