Where You’ll Work

As a Certified Surgical Technologist at St. Mary-Corwin, you will provide essential scrub support in a surgical department featuring 8 OR suites and a monthly volume of 180–200+ cases. You will work across a broad range of service lines, including General, Orthopedics, Spine, Urology, and ENT, with active involvement in robotic-assisted procedures such as DaVinci XI and MAKO total knee and hip replacements. We utilize a cross-trained model, meaning all associates are prepared to support every service line rather than working within specialized teams. Your daily responsibilities include providing intraoperative support, such as delivering additional supplies and sterile instruments, facilitating efficient room turnovers, and restocking for the following day’s cases. You will also serve as a key resource for the department by maintaining and updating surgeon preference cards and serving as a dedicated advocate for patient safety and well-being throughout the perioperative experience.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

 

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

 

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast-paced surgical team.

  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
  • Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
  • Provides on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
  • Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case. Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

Schedule Per policy PRN requires a Min availability for 5 shifts in a 6 week schedule block and 2 holidays per yr. TBD during interviews with OR Manager. 

Call is required for most positions. Variable per needs/ surgical volume of unit. Call in rotation with team.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
  • Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
  • Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado. * A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred

  • Previous scrub Experience in a hosp[ital setting highly preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
  • Experience in a specialty field
