About the Role

As the Business Improvement Manager, you will provide strategic leadership for business improvement at Wagerup Refinery, driving the deployment of Alcoa Business System (ABS) principles, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices. Working closely with the Location Manager, operational leaders and Business Improvement Specialists, you can expect to:

  • Lead and deliver site-wide continuous improvement and business transformation initiatives that enhance performance, efficiency and operational outcomes.

  • Partner with leaders across the refinery to identify improvement opportunities and embed sustainable ways of working.

  • Coach leaders and teams across the refinery in continuous improvement, problem-solving and change leadership practices.

  • Drive cross-functional improvement projects that support strategic priorities and long-term business performance.

  • Lead and develop a team of business improvement professionals, building capability and supporting the effective deployment of ABS principles and methodologies.

  • Monitor and strengthen management systems, governance and assurance processes to support operational excellence and continuous learning.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualification in Chemical engineering or a related discipline, supported by experience in heavy industry or a similar operational environment.

  • Demonstrated experience leading business improvement, lean manufacturing, operational excellence or quality management initiatives.

  • Advanced problem-solving capability and practical knowledge of business improvement tools, ABS or comparable lean operating systems.

  • Collaborative coaching, influencing and communication skills, with the ability to build shared understanding across leaders, employees and specialist teams.

  • Support change, improvement activities, and our people to apply management systems consistently and sustainably.

Alcoa's Wagerup Refinery is one of the world's most environmentally and technologically advanced alumina refineries, and produces approximately 2.9 million metric tons of alumina each year. Located approximately 150 kilometres south of Perth, it is located on the border of WA’s picturesque Peel and South West regions.
