Role Purpose

As a Business Development Manager for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China, you will support the growth of Boku’s Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) and Local Payment Methods (LPMs) businesses by managing existing partners, enhancing day-to-day payment operations, and identifying new partnership opportunities across carriers, eWallets, banks, BNPL providers, PSPs, other payment providers, and fintech companies.

You will serve as a commercially minded payments professional with a strong understanding of both business development and payment operations. In this role, you will work cross-functionally to improve payment performance, strengthen partner satisfaction, and drive revenue growth across the region.

This is a hands-on and analytical role within a fast-changing fintech environment. It is well suited for someone who can solve problems independently, conduct regulatory and market research, and help build scalable payment solutions across Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and other regional markets.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily business operations and issue resolution and performance tracking for existing DCB and LPM partners.
  • Serve as a payment expertise and provide guidance on DCB and LPM-related requests.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing merchants, business and payment partners to drive transaction volume and performance.
  • Identify and research new business opportunities, key contacts, and decision-makers of new payment partners (carriers, wallets, fintech platforms) and local merchants who want to global market across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.
  • Negotiate best commercials offers/cost and performance optimizations with carriers, eWallets, banks, and payment providers.
  • Support new merchant launches in the region by aligning with product, integration, compliance, and legal teams.
  • Work with Partner Relationship Network (PRM), Customer Success, Tech, BI, Product, Finance, Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams for optimization plans to improve payment flows, API integrations, settlement, and user experience.
  • Monitor regulatory updates, market trends, and competitor activities in the payments industry.
  • Help optimize internal and external processes to improve efficiency and business results.
  • Prepare and deliver impactful business proposals, presentations, and partner reports

  1. Improved DCB and LPM partner performance, including transaction success rates, service quality, and overall payment reliability.
  2. Effective day-to-day partner management, demonstrated through timely issue resolution, responsive support, and strong partner satisfaction.
  3. New partnership opportunities across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China identified and progressed, including carriers, eWallets, banks, PSPs, fintech platforms, and local merchants.
  4. Actionable market, regulatory, and competitor insights delivered, supporting quarterly business reviews, strategic planning, and commercial decision-making.
  5. Process improvements implemented to support revenue growth, operational efficiency, and scalable payment operations.

 

Key Skills and Competencies

  1. Strong understanding of the Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China local payment ecosystems, including DCB, LPMs, PSPs, eWallets, banks, carriers, and major payment methods such as carrier billings, WeChat Pay, Alipay, UnionPay International, LINE Pay Money, JKO Pay, PXPay Plus, AFTEE, Octopus, WeChat Pay HK, Alipay HK, and FPS.
  2. Excellent relationship management, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with merchants, payment partners, and internal stakeholders.
  3. Strong research, analytical, and project management capabilities, with the ability to assess market opportunities, regulatory developments, competitor activities, and partner performance.
  4. Ability to work effectively with PSPs, eWallets, banks, carriers, payment providers, fintech partners, and cross-functional teams across Product, Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Operations.
  5. Detail-oriented, proactive, persistent, and commercially minded, with the ability to solve problems independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  6. Fluent in English and Mandarin, with the ability to operate effectively across Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and regional markets.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in business development, partnerships, account management, payment operations, enterprise sales, or a related commercial role.
  • Experience in fintech, PSPs, digital payments, banking, mobile commerce, or financial services is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with international teams, regional stakeholders, or global companies is preferred.
  • Prior exposure to PSPs, eWallets, acquiring banks, merchant networks, or payment partners is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of Greater China regulatory environments and local payment landscapes across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with DCB, eWallets, account-to-account payments, FPS, or other alternative payment methods is highly desirable.
