POSITION SUMMARY:

Alexander Dennis is seeking a Mechanical Build Support Engineer to join our Current Model Engineering team in Las Vegas. This is a highly hands-on engineering support role that spends approximately 70–75% of the time on the production floor working directly with manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and resolve vehicle build issues. Acting as the key link between Engineering and Production, you will investigate mechanical concerns, perform root cause analysis, review engineering drawings and CAD models, and implement practical solutions that improve product quality, manufacturability, and production efficiency. Rather than creating new designs, you will work extensively with existing drawings, specifications, bills of material, and CAD models to identify issues, validate build requirements, and support production. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working closely with production teams, and being actively involved in vehicle builds. Build Support is also considered an excellent pathway into broader engineering opportunities within Alexander Dennis, allowing individuals to build deep product knowledge and gain exposure to future vehicle programs, including upcoming zero-emission vehicle initiatives.

WHY JOIN US:

  • Be a part of a team leading the world’s electrification of mass mobility
  • Competitive Wages and comprehensive benefit package with immediate benefit eligibility
  • Paid holidays and vacation
  • 401K with generous company match
  • Inclusive workplace culture that values and empowers team members.
  • On-the-job training in a continuous learning environment (we invested $15.9 million in 2024)
  • Advancement opportunities within our family of companies

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Hands-on experience working with buses, trucks, trailers, heavy-duty vehicles, agricultural equipment, RVs, camper vans, or similar vehicle platforms
  • Practical experience troubleshooting mechanical systems and resolving production, assembly, manufacturing, or service-related issues
  • Experience performing root cause analysis using engineering drawings, CAD models, technical documentation, and other engineering tools
  • Ability to review and interrogate existing CAD models and engineering documentation to identify build, fitment, manufacturing, or quality concerns
  • Experience working with Siemens NX or similar CAD software to review models and drawings
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing, assembly, fabrication, and vehicle build processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, and technical documents
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues and engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Self-starter who can work independently and effectively manage priorities with limited supervision
  • Comfortable collaborating with globally distributed teams across North America and the United Kingdom
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • Technical education, apprenticeship training, diploma, degree, or equivalent experience is considered an asset; however, extensive hands-on industry experience will be given greater consideration than formal educational credentials.
  • Practical engineering experience within automotive, commercial vehicle, heavy equipment, manufacturing, or related industries
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems and resolving production-related issues
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, and bills of materials
  • Experience with CAD software such as Solid Edge or similar design platforms
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and production environments
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Comfortable working independently and managing competing priorities
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction

Physical & Workplace Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to stand and walk on manufacturing floors for extended periods
  • Ability to safely navigate vehicle production and assembly environments
  • Occasional lifting, bending, crouching, and climbing may be required
  • Up to 10% travel, including potential international travel
