About this role

At Zyte, we eat data for breakfast and you can eat your breakfast anywhere and work for Zyte. Founded in 2010, we are a globally distributed team of over 260 Zytans working from over 28 countries who are on a mission to enable our customers to extract the data they need to continue to innovate and grow their businesses. We believe that all businesses deserve a smooth pathway to data.

For more than a decade, Zyte has led the way in building powerful, easy-to-use tools to collect, format, and deliver web data, quickly, dependably, and at scale. And today, the data we extract helps thousands of organizations make smarter business decisions, secure competitive advantage, and drive sustainable growth. Today, over 3,000 companies and 1 million developers rely on our tools and services to get the data they need from the web.

About the Job

You will be a founding engineer on our new Browser Stack team, building the custom browser and automation technology that powers the entire fetching stack at Zyte and gives customers unfettered access to open web data.

Browser engineering is a distinct and demanding core competency: Chromium/V8 internals, stealth patching, and automation-protocol work. Our custom, Puppeteer-free browser already passes every major antibot and scores 0.9 on reCAPTCHA — but detection surfaces shift weekly, and staying ahead requires deep, dedicated browser engineering. You will own that frontier.

This data powers business-critical decisions in industries such as eCommerce, OTA, travel, healthcare, information security, and financial services. You will play a key role in transforming how companies get web data, giving them the ability to make better decisions, products, and results.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a founding member of the Browser Stack team, you'll build and harden the custom browser and automation layer that the hardest targets on the web can't tell apart from a real user. This is a fast-moving frontier — detection surfaces shift weekly, and the browser you ship is the difference between data flowing and data stopping. In particular, you will:

  • Engineer the internals of our custom browser and defeat fingerprinting and antibot detection at the deepest layers of the stack
  • Extend the stealth frontier across new engines and mobile profiles
  • Build our own automation client to run and control the browser at scale on the toughest sites
  • Create the introspection and tracing tooling that turns days of manual ban investigation into a readout in minutes
  • Harden the release pipeline so browser updates never ship silent success-rate cliffs
  • Push browser performance to keep pace with the fastest headless and cloud browser platforms
  • Help shape the team's technical roadmap and contribute back to open source browser development

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in C++ and TypeScript
  • Previous experience contributing to the source code of an open source browser project such as Chromium, WebKit, or Firefox
  • Good understanding of Web APIs (for example canvas, audio, WebGL, WebRTC)
  • Deep understanding of operating systems, plus knowledge of emulation and virtualization
  • A good understanding of the TCP/IP stack as well as HTTP and SOCKS protocols
  • A good understanding of containerisation concepts (Docker, containerd, runc, K8s)
  • Experience with Rust
  • Experience building and deploying production applications
  • A good understanding of browser fingerprinting approaches

Bonus points for

  • Being a core committer to any of the major browser projects
  • A good understanding of libraries such as Puppeteer and Playwright and the underlying Chrome DevTools Protocol
  • Experience building or replacing a CDP-based automation client
  • WebAssembly knowledge
  • Experience with mobile browser stacks and mobile device / browser profiles
  • Experience developing any one of the following: QEMU, WSL, Wine, VirtualBox

By joining the Zyte team, you will:

  • Become part of a self-motivated, progressive, multi-cultural team
  • Have the freedom and flexibility to work from where you do your best work
  • Attend conferences and meet with team members from across the globe
  • Work with cutting-edge open source technologies and tools
