About this role

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain secure, reliable, and scalable server-side applications and services. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of professional software development experience and strong proficiency in one or more of the following technology stacks:

  • C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core
  • Java and Spring Boot
  • Node.js and TypeScript, using frameworks such as NestJS or Express
  • Python, using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask

The successful candidate should have strong experience developing APIs, working with relational and non-relational databases, integrating third-party systems, and deploying applications in cloud-based environments.

This role requires a collaborative engineer who can translate business and technical requirements into maintainable software solutions. The candidate will work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, quality engineers, infrastructure teams, and other stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in backend software development.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of the following backend stacks:
    • C# with .NET / ASP.NET Core
    • Java with Spring Boot
    • Node.js with TypeScript and NestJS or Express
    • Python with FastAPI, Django, or Flask
  • Familiarity with at least one additional backend language or technology stack.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, clean code, SOLID principles, and common software design patterns.
  • Experience designing, developing, documenting, and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with API documentation tools and standards such as OpenAPI and Swagger.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, SQL, schema design, transactions, indexing, and query optimization.
  • Experience with an ORM or data-access technology such as Entity Framework Core, Hibernate, Prisma, TypeORM, SQLAlchemy, or Django ORM.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases and distributed caching technologies.
  • Experience implementing authentication, authorization, input validation, error handling, and secure coding practices.
  • Understanding of synchronous and asynchronous communication between services.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests with tools such as xUnit, NUnit, JUnit, Jest, Pytest, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
  • Experience deploying or supporting applications on Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Practical experience with Docker and containerized application development.
  • Knowledge of logging, monitoring, tracing, and application performance practices.
  • Experience with observability tools or platforms such as Application Insights, Datadog, New Relic, Grafana, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience working in an Agile or Scrum development environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English at a minimum B2 level; C1 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend applications and services.
  • Build secure, reliable, and well-documented RESTful APIs.
  • Develop backend solutions using technologies such as .NET, Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, or Python.
  • Translate business requirements and technical specifications into clean, maintainable software.
  • Design and optimize relational database schemas, queries, indexes, and data-access patterns.
  • Work with databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
  • Use NoSQL databases and caching technologies such as MongoDB, Redis, or equivalent solutions when appropriate.
  • Integrate applications with internal services, third-party platforms, payment providers, and external APIs.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization using technologies and standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, and role-based access control.
  • Write clean, modular, efficient, and testable code following established engineering standards.
  • Develop and maintain unit, integration, contract, and automated API tests.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other engineers.
  • Identify and resolve application defects, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.
  • Implement asynchronous processing and event-driven integrations using technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, or AWS SQS.
  • Build and maintain containerized applications using Docker.
  • Monitor application health, reliability, logs, and performance in production environments.
  • Contribute to technical design discussions, architectural decisions, and implementation planning.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering teams to define testable acceptance criteria and support release validation.
  • Work with Infrastructure and DevOps teams to improve CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.
  • Apply security best practices to source code, APIs, dependencies, data handling, and application configuration.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for services, APIs, integrations, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including planning, refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Provide technical support during scheduled releases or production incidents when required.

  • Professional experience with two or more of the listed backend technology stacks.
  • Experience designing or maintaining microservices and distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, or AWS SQS.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Experience with GraphQL or gRPC.
  • Familiarity with API gateways, service discovery, circuit breakers, and distributed caching.
  • Experience implementing automated contract testing between services.
  • Knowledge of performance testing, application profiling, and system optimization.
  • Experience implementing observability using centralized logs, metrics, alerts, and distributed tracing.
  • Understanding of domain-driven design, clean architecture, hexagonal architecture, or similar architectural practices.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing or cloud data platforms such as Snowflake.
  • Experience working with high-availability or business-critical systems.
  • Relevant Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud, Java, or software development certifications.
