Aviation Planning Intern
About this role
Overview
Kimley-Horn is looking for Planning students to join our San Jose, California (CA) Aviation Planning team in Summer 2027! This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of aviation planning and strategy studies for state DOTs and airport clients, inlcuding:
- State aviation system plans
- Aviation economic impact analyses
- Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) planning initiatives
- Airport business plans, master plans, and Airport Layout Plans (ALPs)
- Conduct research, data collection, and analysis to inform planning recommendations and policy decisions
- Prepare clear, concise, and well-structured technical reports, memoranda, and presentation materials
- Support project managers in organizing tasks, tracking deliverables, and ensuring timely completion of assignments
- Coordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders, including state aviation agencies, airport sponsors, and industry partners
- Demonstrate strong follow-through by proactively closing the loop on assigned tasks and communicating status updates
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment while taking ownership of individual work products
- Apply GIS and other analytical tools (as applicable) to support planning and visualization efforts
Qualifications
- In the process of receiving a Planning Degree (Bachelors or Masters) from an accredited program in of the following majors:
- City and Regional Planning
- Urban Planning
- Transportation Planning
- Aviation Planning
Hourly Rate: $33.00/hr - $34.00/hr
