JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Humanities and Arts Department invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Histories of the Environment, Science, and Technology (non-tenure track) beginning in August 2027. We invite scholars who deploy transregional, international, comparative, and/or global perspectives and methods, whose work may focus predominantly on any region of the world (except the United States). We are particularly interested in environmental history scholars with a demonstrated record of teaching who can contribute to the department’s existing thematic strength in histories of science, technology, and medicine. Desirable secondary strengths include the ability to extend departmental course offerings in any of the following: race and ethnic studies; gender, sexuality, and women’s studies; the Global South; or European imperial and postcolonial histories.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching 6 courses and 2 capstone inquiry seminars in History and International and Global Studies.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in History is preferred; terminal degree in a relevant field considered.
  • A track record of successful classroom teaching at the university level.
  • The ability to work creatively and collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, staff, and students of various experience levels.
