Job Overview
Under general supervision, assists with the installation, maintenance, and inventory of traffic signs, traffic control devices, and related City infrastructure. Performs a variety of field duties including road striping, vegetation removal, and other maintenance activities.
Specific Tasks, Duties, & Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of street signs and traffic control devices.
- Maintain and assist with inventory and distribution of traffic signs, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
- Assist with the inspection, maintenance, and adjustment of traffic signals and related equipment.
- Assist with road and pavement striping activities.
- Trim limbs, brush, and vegetation that obstruct street signs, traffic signals, or visibility.
- Operate hand and power tools, including shovels, rakes, drills, saws, pressure washers, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Assist with bucket truck operations for the maintenance of traffic signals, signs, banners, and related equipment.
- Mix and apply herbicides and other chemicals in accordance with established procedures and manufacturer instructions.
- Assist with grounds and maintenance work at Hasley Cemetery as assigned.
- Set up and remove traffic control devices to support City work activities.
- Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Worker Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Louisiana driver's license.
- Previous experience with signs, traffic control, construction, landscaping, or general maintenance preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in assigned work.
- Ability to learn basic traffic sign, traffic control, and traffic signal maintenance practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to safely mix and apply herbicides and other chemicals used in assigned work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a crew and independently when directed.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Ability to work around moving traffic, vehicles, equipment, chemicals, noise, and other field-related hazards while using required protective equipment.
- Ability to work at elevated heights when performing duties from a bucket truck or similar equipment.ย
Hours/Scheduling
- Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- May be required to respond to emergency or after-hours calls as needed.
- Overtime or schedule adjustments may be required based on operational needs.
