Position Duties

The Department of Forensic Science at Loyola University Maryland (LUM) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position as an Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2027. We are looking for a candidate committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education at a dynamic liberal arts university. The department is especially interested in outstanding candidates who demonstrate the ability to develop and teach new and existing undergraduate and graduate courses in content areas specific to our undergraduate programs in forensic science (BS and BA) and two graduate programs (MS) in Biological Forensics and Forensic Pattern Analysis. The successful candidate is also expected to develop a research program with the potential for extramural funding and that involves undergraduate and graduate students. Preference will be given to candidates who have professional experience in pattern evidence and whose research addresses questions in pattern evidence.

The successful candidate will teach 2 upper-level undergraduate/graduate courses per year in pattern evidence that may include Criminalistics, Pattern Evidence, Crime Scene Investigation, Questioned Documents, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, and Quality Control/Quality Assurance as well as contribute to introductory courses in forensic science and capstone courses for undergraduates and graduate students. Ideally, the individual will develop new courses in their area of expertise, incorporate advanced technologies and equipment in the department’s newly developed Forensic Science Technology Center into teaching and research, as well as be able to collaborate with other faculty in the department and in the Natural and Applied Sciences at Loyola.

Strong candidates should possess an awareness of and interest in high impact practices in line with the mission of Jesuit higher education. Faculty development opportunities are also available, including startup funds for establishing a research program.  We highly value the ability and motivation to collaborate with other faculty members, the provision of high-value experiences to our undergraduates and graduate students, and a commitment to “inspire students to learn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world.” Loyola’s work on behalf of diversity and inclusion spans the entire campus, and we welcome candidates who contribute to our stated goals of equity and inclusion through their research, teaching, and/or service.

Applications should include a cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, statement of teaching interests and description of research program. Candidates will be contacted to submit reference information after applying. For full consideration, applications should be received by 10/1/2026.
