About the Role: Assistant Director of Human Resources

As our Assistant Director of Human Resources, you will play an integral role in delivering an exceptional guest experience while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Operations & Execution

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment efforts in collaboration with department heads
  • Develop partnerships with local organizations and participate in hiring events to build a diverse talent pipeline
  • Oversee candidate sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding to ensure a seamless and inclusive hiring process
  • Provide guidance to hiring managers on selection criteria and employment standards

Employee Experience & Training

  • Coordinate and deliver new hire orientation programs that reflect the hotel's commitment to excellence and guest service
  • Support departmental leaders in cross-training and development initiatives
  • Facilitate ongoing employee education aligned with operational needs and brand standards
  • Promote leadership involvement in workforce development

Employee Relations & Labor Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to staff and leaders on employee relations matters
  • Administer progressive discipline procedures with fairness and consistency, ensuring alignment with collective bargaining agreements
  • Respond promptly to employee concerns, partnering with union representatives and leadership as necessary
  • Conduct workplace investigations and collaborate with the Safety & Security team when incidents arise
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication channels across departments

Compliance, Documentation & Benefits Administration

  • Ensure employee records are maintained in accordance with legal and privacy standards
  • Oversee compliance with labor laws, health and safety regulations, and internal HR policies
  • Manage benefits communications and support employees through claims, leave, and insurance-related inquiries
  • Attend unemployment hearings and coordinate responses to employment-related claims
  • Participate in workplace safety initiatives and workers' compensation case management
  • Monitor and audit documentation related to hiring, promotions, compensation, and separations

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements

  • Experience working in a unionized hotel environment is necessary; experience working with UNITE HERE Local 11 is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of labor relations, union contracts, and disciplinary procedures within union frameworks strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and hospitality operations
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms necessary with strong translation and interpretation skills preferred.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities with a track record of driving initiatives and improving processes in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative in leading complex projects and implementing innovative HR strategies.
  • Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
  • Experience leading organizational change initiatives and driving continuous improvement in HR practices.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of progressive human resources experience in a hospitality or service-driven environment OR Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field with 1+ year of relevant HR experience
