Position Highlights

Career Counseling:

  • Provide career counseling services for students and alumni whose problems range from choice of major, change of career direction, need for relevant occupational information, and developmental concerns related to their success in their academic and professional pursuits. Conduct career counseling sessions, develop treatment plans, provide clinical services, and maintain counseling records using an electronic records system.
  • Coordinate individual client’s career counseling services including consultation with program coordinators, referral to appropriate university and community resources, follow-up and case disposition.
  • Administer interest and personality assessments, following accepted practice. Interpret the results of those inventories in individual and group settings.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of group intervention approaches, e.g. psychoeducational groups and classes for career undecided students and alumni
  • Provide consultation to administrators, advisors, faculty, staff, parents, and others as appropriate, with regard to career information and concerns.
  • Provide outreach activities to the university community. Plan, develop, and promote these activities.
  • Maintain counseling records in accordance with counseling profession guidelines.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, including Office staff meetings and Student Services group meetings.
  • Support the office functions of the Fall and Spring Career Fair, Interview Days, other career fairs, and hosting employer information sessions.
  • Participate in training to maintain or enhance job skills
  • Maintain and utilize knowledge of campus and community resources, including a detailed understanding of RIT academic programs of study, majors, minors, and degree completion requirements.
  • Maintain the career counseling portion of the website, including inclusion of occupational and educational resources that are up to date.

Disability Career Advising

  • Meet with students and alumni with disabilities to teach effective job search skills and provide advising on skill-building directly related to disability (including disclosure, interviewing skills, networking, and identifying opportunities that suit an individuals’ strengths and challenges).
  • Serve as campus liaison for RIT Workforce Recruitment Program interviews, and manage process of advertising WRP program, scheduling WRP interview candidates, preparing interview candidates for their interview, and logistics of the on-campus interviews. Coordinate closely with representatives from WRP and NTID Center on Employment to streamline WRP interview process from prior year.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers customized instruction regarding job search strategies, career trends, and workplace success through seminars, workshops, designated classes, and class-based presentations
  • Communicates with students and alumni regarding employment opportunities, instructional program/services offerings, employer recruiting events, and career trend information
  • Markets students, academic programs, and university and office programs and services to prospective employing organizations. Identifies employment opportunities, establishes new employer recruiting partnerships, and supports related university corporate outreach and partnership goals
  • Ensures positive and effective university and employer recruiting and hiring partnerships. Participates in employer hiring strategy development and recruiting activities and programs
  • Partners with various divisions to support university initiatives in admissions, alumni relations, global partnerships, research development, and institutional fundraising
  • Counsels students regarding the employment process and employment related issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

Specialized Contributor Level 3 - A senior-level role requiring broad understanding of the profession or field of work. Independently leads diverse and often complex assignments, projects, or programs. May act as a mentor and guide less experienced staff.
