About this role

GBX Consultants, Inc. is accepting resumes for a part-time Alcohol and Drug Counselor. The Alcohol and Drug Counselor is responsible for conducting substance‑use assessments for Job Corps students, developing individualized intervention plans, and making appropriate referrals. The coordinator leads prevention efforts by designing and implementing educational activities, facilitating group sessions, and providing counseling and relapse‑prevention support.

 

This role collaborates closely with center staff and community agencies to ensure the delivery of integrated, comprehensive, and high‑quality services to all students.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures orientation of new students to the center’s Trainee Employee Assistance Program (TEAP) program as a center wide alcohol and drug prevention and education effort with a focus on preventing barriers to employability.
  • Provide center wide substance prevention and education services that encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Conduct assessment of students to identify substance use problems and develops intervention services as needed.
  • Coordinate career plans and intervention planning with center counselors and health providers, as well as educators and instructors to update a student’s intervention plan and behavioral contract. Ensure the plan guide a student’s expected behavior in all areas of central life and incorporation for employment.
  • Conduct ongoing counseling and support groups, to include an introduction to the self-help program for intervention and annual events surrounding prevention.
  • Coordinate relapse prevention services.
  • Assures adherence to Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance policy for substance abuse amongst student students.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the biochemical testing program. Ensures that the integrity of the biochemical testing program is maintained.
  • Collaborate with the recreation department to assist in developing leisure time activities and specific incentives to reinforce an alcohol and other drug free lifestyle.
  • Coordinate and participate in Tobacco Use Prevention (TUPP) programming, Healthy and Active Life Styles (HEALS) programming and other center activities.
  • Collaborate with Center Mental Health Counselor regarding support and intervention needs of students with co-occurring conditions of substance abuse.
  • Ensure patient privacy for all assessments; maintain, safeguard, and ensure the confidentiality of all required student health records when they are in the health clinic or in the possession of health and wellness team members, in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a Licensed Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) credential and be an independent practitioner in the state of Arkansas.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a licensed independent practitioner, providing assessment and treatment services to adolescence and young adults.
  • Possess the ability to work both independently and as a member of a healthcare team to provide optimal services to a population of financially disadvantaged youth, typically ranging from 16 to 24 years in age.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug testing.
