About this role

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.   Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.   Location & Team Gatherings   Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016.  We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.   We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture. About This Role   As an Air Permitting and Compliance Team Member on Intersect's Environmental and Permitting team, you'll secure critical air authorizations and maintain regulatory compliance across our expanding portfolio of clean energy and power-infrastructure assets. You'll drive permitting strategy for facilities featuring natural gas power generation, grid-support technologies, and co-located infrastructure, ensuring seamless coordination between engineering design, regulatory requirements, and project execution schedules.    Team Overview   This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission to accelerate the clean energy transition. The Environmental and Permitting team establishes the regulatory foundation that allows complex, utility-scale power projects to move from concept to operation responsibly and efficiently. Joining this team means taking ownership of high-stakes environmental strategy, collaborating across disciplines, and growing alongside dedicated specialists committed to long-term stewardship and technical excellence.   What You'll Do   Lead Air Quality Permitting Strategy   Develop and execute air permitting strategies, preparing minor source, NSR, and PSD permit applications for power generation and infrastructure assets. Evaluate regulatory applicability under federal Clean Air Act programs, including NSPS, NESHAP/MACT, and state-level air toxics and emissions standards. Review and oversee technical air dispersion modeling using AERMOD and related tools to demonstrate compliance with ambient air quality standards.   Drive Continuous Compliance and Asset Operations   Establish monitoring, recordkeeping, testing, and reporting protocols for stationary sources, with emphasis on reciprocating internal combustion engines (RICE) and auxiliary systems. Prepare and submit annual emissions inventories, compliance certifications, and routine regulatory reports to municipal, state, and federal agencies. Conduct compliance reviews and track evolving environmental regulations to proactive update operational controls and permit conditions.   Partner Across Cross-Functional Teams and Regulatory Agencies   Collaborate closely with Engineering, Development, and Operations to integrate air compliance requirements directly into project design and schedules. Manage external environmental consulting partners to ensure high-quality technical deliverables, air modeling accuracy, and adherence to project timelines. Serve as a key point of contact with air regulatory agency staff, leading permit negotiations and public notice processes.   What You'll Bring   Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or a related field. 4+ years of hands-on experience in air quality permitting, air dispersion modeling oversight, and regulatory compliance for industrial or power generation assets. Demonstrated expertise in federal and state air regulations, specifically New Source Review (NSR), Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), Title V, and RICE NSPS/NESHAP standards. Proficiency with air compliance tools and geospatial applications including AERMOD (or equivalent modeling platforms), ArcGIS, Google Earth, and Google Workspace. Strong technical writing capability with a track record of authoring air permit applications, regulatory filings, and complex technical justifications. A rigorous, collaborative work style with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple project developments under tight deadlines. Alignment with Intersect's core values: Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
