Job Description:

The Roger L. Jenkins Transplant Institute at Lahey Clinic offers a comprehensive, one-year Abdominal Transplantation APP Fellowship for newly graduated and experienced Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.

This structured, mentorship-driven program is designed to develop early-career clinicians into confident, independently practicing providers within the field of abdominal transplantation. Fellows are fully integrated into a high-volume, multidisciplinary team across all phases of care for complex liver, kidney, and hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) conditions.

What You'll Gain

  • Comprehensive Clinical Training: Immersive inpatient and outpatient experience across transplant hepatology, nephrology, and surgery.
  • Expert Mentorship: Personalized guidance from board-certified transplant surgeons, hepatologists, and nephrologists.
  • Multidisciplinary Integration: Active participation in listing conferences, UNOS/OPTN meetings, tumor boards, and M&M conferences.
  • Tailored Electives: Opportunities in Infectious Disease, Critical Care, Transplant Pharmacy, Radiology, Gastroenterology, Nutrition, and Psychiatry.
  • ASTS Certification: Meet all requirements for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) Advanced Transplant Provider Certificate.
  • Scholarly & Professional Development: Complete a faculty-mentored QI or research project and receive subsidized attendance at a medical conference.

Program & Core Rotation Structure

The fellowship is organized into progressive, high-volume phases over the course of the year:

  • Phase 1: Foundational Learning
    • Orientation to transplant services, systems, and institutional policies.
    • Initial exposure to rounds, clinics, and selecting a scholarly project.
  • Phase 2: Core Rotations (12 Weeks Each)
    • Transplant Surgery: Focus on surgical and peri-operative care, bedside procedures, organ recoveries, and immunosuppression management.
    • Transplant Hepatology: Focus on chronic liver disease (MASLD, cirrhosis, HCC), pre-transplant evaluations, UNOS listing, and long-term follow-up.
    • Transplant Nephrology: Focus on medical management of kidney recipients and living donors, HLA immunology, donor-specific antibodies, and renal biopsy interpretation.
  • Phase 3: Elective Rotations (6 Weeks)
    • Ancillary or subspecialty rotations tailored to your career goals.
  • Phase 4: Capstone Rotation (6 Weeks)
    • An individualized experience with a graduated reduction in oversight to smoothly bridge the gap into autonomous, independent practice.
